On the other hand, it irks me if you happen to miss out on an extremely limited CE because a few greedy bastards bought extra copies to flog off on eBay. However that's happening less and less these days. |

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition announced
Price? Price is relative. If you are a fan, something like a little rectangle of cardboard is potentially worth millions. But there is more acceptance of the person who collects baseball cards.
I still smile when I look at my goofy "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" mouse pad. These things are what I like, they inspire me, and they help me remember how I became who I am. I think part of this is that there is not the level of respect for the creative genius that goes into video games when compared to movies, or other pass-times. I just dropped the deal on Amazon. Getting it one day mail only costs $9 more, so I did that. If I worried about money I would have done the Super Saver Free Shipping. But I work hard, so I don't have to worry about money. So I got it, and I cannot wait. I will cackle like a boob when it arrives, and I will show the young ones the statue, and it will be early Christmas. And we'll watch the DVD and and look at the book together, and the little ones will start going crazy wanting me to install it. For a little while there I'll remember what being a kid feels like, and that's a luxury I can afford. |

Don't get worried about the material. I collect Koto statues and they're really high-end. If you know about Kotobukiya, then you'll know what I'm talking about. Quote:
The artbook will definitely be the best from a CE and that's saying something considering how sexy the Bioshock 2, Crysis 2 and Mortal Kombat artbooks were. As for the statue, I'm going out on a limb and say that it will be made out of the same material as Crysis 2's. Not that it's a bad thing, but they could at least have made it resin or pewter for that price. If not, they can go along the lines of the wizardry Ubisoft put up with the ACII Black Edition Ezio figurine. Quote:

Didn't realize that the artbook was 9 by 12". That just made the edition much more special.

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition announced
@Solemn_In_Berlin Thanks for the reply man. Thank you also for the information on the statue makers and more importantly the pics you provided for the Batman AC statue. The photo shows its true nature in that lighting, as if it's just a testing photo prior to a proper "prettier" picture. Those up close and personal pic really show alot of details and the quality of the statue. If it remains that way, then we're in for a great CE! I managed to preorder one for only AU$90 instead of the AU$150 they're asking for at the retail stores here, so there's definitely no doubting now about the quality of the contents.
It's true that there are and have been some great art books released for game whether it's part of a CE or come as a preorder in both small or big sizes. I collect those as well if they're available as well as the "special" releases not just from your paperback 'The Art of....[insert game title here]' books but limited releases such as those from Ballistic Publishing [Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Oddworld] that includes a price far exceeding stupendous but probably worth it!? (I can't claim to have actually looked through one of the limited folio editions as all mine are still factory sealed). So the release of Skyrim's big sized Art Book (surprised if Ballistic Publishing don't release a Folio edition) weighing in at over 200+ pages will be a welcome entry to my collection of Gaming Art Books (plus judging from the pics, it's not your average hardcover book. Looks like they're going to use some textured material for it). Still, it would have been nice even they included a 'steelbook' case either as a bonus case with the folding case or will they offer that as another special edition? Or save it for a 5th Anniversary Edition?? I'd also agree on Ubisoft's Black Edition Ezio figurine being one of the best released CE out there, with such high quality work and details. Even comparing it to the White Edition figurine you can tell which had better quality paint job done to it! As for your eBay bargain, I guess you either got lucky or was patient and did a lot of searching for those bargain prices So I wonder if I should be another Gran Turismo 5 Signature Edition since it's down to AU$128 from AU$300?!?! :O Last edited by Matrix6; 08-07-2011 at 07:07 PM. Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition announced
Listen up, to everyone complaining about the cost of Skyrim Collector's Edition:
First of all, and most importantly, the artbook included in this is not a small, cheap artbook (like the miniature artbooks you see with many smaller Collector editions). This is a full, oversized artbook, likely to be very high quality (similar to the artbook they put out recently for Alice: Madness Returns). The Alice artbook was very impressive and sold for 40$ to start (-any signed or special versions of it). Figure the cost of the game initially (60$) and then add a 30-40$ high quality full size artbook in, you got about 100$, then add this high detail model of the dragon (scanned from the in-game render) and you got your 150$. Not to mention there is the "making of" dvd which, considering how good the making of was for Oblivion, I'd say this will be a very good making of dvd. Price is high, but justified for the high quality artbook, large, detailed statue and making of dvd (which will likely be long and satisfying). Who the hell wants all sorts of extra stuff that is "low quality" when you have these 2 high quality collectibles and a very satisfying, fun, informative making of dvd? Take Duke Nukem Forever Balls of Steel edition. Came with tons of "low quality" stuff and no single high quality collectible. I'd rather these publishers and developers focus on 1 or 2 high quality items for a collectible than a bunch of lower quality items (and stupid DLC, which I hate when they include those dumb skins and maps for preorder...worthless).

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition announced
you are forgetting that everywhere else in the world we are being charged in excess of $200 (£130) for this edition.
Also you've got to consider other CEs aswell. Think of The Witcher 2 CE, that had tons of high quality content, the art book was top-notch, the geralt head wasn't made from cheap plastic like this dragon, making of dvd, soundtrack, playing cards, papercraft, dlc, , replica coin, pamphlet and cursed coin, dice set, map and even some stickers not to mention a bloody brilliant RPG. All that for £65, then when i see the Skyrim CE for £90 in the US let alone £130 in UK how can i even start to think the price is at-all justified? The Duke Nukem Forever CE was also dirt cheap for CE, i paid £40 for it (The same price as a standard edition console game)

My favourite arebook is the codes from Assassisn creed Brotherhood, and this looks nowhere near worth 200 dollars

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition announced
For reference purposes, Kotaku have mentioned this here:
http://kotaku.com/5828190/the-lavish...h-more-than-29 As for the debate regarding the pricing, Bethesda have a long history of producing some quality CE's, all or which have been worth their asking price. Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas CE's instantly spring to mind, and they are amongst some of the finest CE's in recent years. No doubt the same ould be said for Skyrim's CE. I have faith in Bethesda that the statue will be of the finest quality, and certainly not a cheap Chinese mould. I also think the artwork book will be a fine and exquisite piece of workmanship which will be desired by collectors for many years to come! It also appears that this may be quite a large CE. From the promo picture, I imagine this to be of equal size to the Halo 3: Legendary Edition or Halo Reach: Legendary Edition. I also imagine it to be reasonably heavy too, what with a huge statue and hardback artwork book Has anyone spotted any confirmation yet on whether this will be released here in the UK? |

Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Collector's Edition announced
i'm pretty sure the only evidence we have of bethesda quality for statues is the plastic survival edition alarm clock (as mentioned in the above post) which didn't work for a large amount of users and the bobblehead which is pretty average.
Granted, Bethesda haven't actually released any statues of this magnitude before but it still seems as if they are just trying to make cash-grab off the back of Skyrims enormous amount of hype.
