Hey all

My name is Rasmus, and I'm from Denmark. In general I collect art from different game franchises and not much else. I only collect for franchises that I truly care about, that in itself is expensive enough. To me it's not about having everything, I sort of tried that at some point, but that didn't really work for me. Instead I collect, what is to me, what makes the franchise.

Liara incentive print is mega awesome! Congrats on owning that one. There's no doubt about it, it is mega rare. Do you have it framed?

Liara incentive print is mega awesome! Congrats on owning that one. There's no doubt about it, it is mega rare. Do you have it framed?

Within the next month it will be "framed" along with the SDCC-Liara and another non-game related piece of art Airplanes (http://shop.alicexz.com/airplanes-print)

Despite the fact that some sort of UV-coat is applied to the print before the diasec, there still isn't a complete guarantee that the print is "suited" for the diasec process.

So if I don't update the thread, you know what happened to the prints. and you will know what not to do :rotf:

Wow, you're far more courageous that I am. I don't think I could bring myself to mount the Liara incentive print like that; and the sheer thought that the print could potentially be ruined in the process just makes my stomach turn. Good luck dude.

I had a hard enough time just bringing myself to remove my Liara incentive print from the factory wrapping.

Hey rasmusvn! :notworthy: So good to have you here with us, welcome! I share your sentiments as to why we don't print our own posters/lithos. Also I want Official memorabilia! If we were like "pirates", then of course we would've already produced fake ones by ourselves. We're bona fide fans... that's all.

Can't wait to see the rest of your gallery.:swoon:

So, things are moving along, meaning that:

- Lithos have been shipped for framing
- "The Team" arrives in two days time

I don't particularly envy the Fedex people.

A few pictures of "Citadel" and "Shadow of the Shard". I didn't put much effort to it because there's "damage" to both.

I'm being slightly obsessive here, but there shouldn't be small white dots on something costing +$950 (no, it isn't dust, it can't be removed).

Photos don't do the works justice (iPhone..)

and those dots...

If they had only been on one of the works, I wouldn't have thought much about it, but they appear on both.

Citadel shouldn't be viewed up close, a little distance works much better.

We'll see what happens. I'll let you know.

#Swiftdeath

Very happe with it. It's a giclee as long as you use an inkjet. You could get the print itself for a lot less but keeping it in a tube isn't really the same :)

There's always thumb thacks.

Unpackaging it by yourself is impossible, I guess that's obvious.

#Sand4fish

I see your point. If the dots were in the white areas, I would never have noticed them. I always have an "internal" debate with myself: "Can this be justified?". Sometimes there's a good reason for imperfections, but most of the times that isn't the case.

Let's say somethings is made out of wood, stone fx.. It's a natural material, so there's bound to be imperfections. An actual painting will have imperfections too.

But a print made using the best paper, inks, technique at this price point should have no imperfections. A standard frame made of wood might have imperfections, but with diasec/epoxy there's no such thing. You can actually reheat the epoxy if the piece is scratched.

---

I wanted to talk a little about the gloss process.

C&B uses "Hahnem?hle FineArt Photo Rag Bright White 310gr" (http://www.hahnemuehle.com/media/photoragbrightwhite_rev02.pdf). It's a very high quality paper that I would say is heavily textured. I had a crop sent of "The Team" before the actual order was placed; in my opinion the colors were a little dull and the obvious texturing of the paper annoyed me a little.

The same texturing can be seen on some of the AC-giclees.

http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y373/rasmusvn/Forum/Misc/Hahnemuhle_PhotoRag20Bright_Whitebooksmart.jpg (http://s1031.photobucket.com/user/rasmusvn/media/Forum/Misc/Hahnemuhle_PhotoRag20Bright_Whitebooksmart.jpg.htm l)

I've seen this texturing on a lot og high quality paper. Does anyone know if there's a abvious reason for this?

Both the gloss and diasec-process make the works seem smooth. I guess the gel or epoxy fills out the small "gaps" in the paper.

End result. A mix of refund + prints only. That's pretty decent, but they couldn't see the dots?

Also. Should the back of a piece really look like this (the dibond)? You don't see it when it's hanging on the wall, but that's not the point I'm trying to make.

Thank you for posting the pics. It's good to know that customer service picks up where QC may fail.

rasmusvn
07-08-2013, 07:22 PM
It's not from shipping. Their boxes would surive anything, well, almost anything.

CS is pretty good, but I still find it hard to believe that they couldn't easily find the dots. As a result I was given a choice:

- Complete refund
- Having the works shipped back

I chose a different route with unframed prints + partial refund.

It just doesn't sit that well with me when I'm told that "we can't do better" (in terms of the quality of the product) or somewhat of a fuss is made about where those small dots are (because they couldn't find them).

I haven't talked to Maarten about the damage to that work. Citadel had a scratch on the back, and that was rectified.

Such scratches etc. should never get past any QC-control.

Hi Rasmus,

I agree with you, and we are doing something about the handling of the back of the Dibond works actually. A bit of background (which is private information): we use two suppliers for Dibond mounted works. For Diasec finished works we have a very good fine art company that is careful and precise (and open to criticism from us if they need to improve), and we have another one for the liquid gloss finished work. We have by far the most trouble with that last company and the Dibond panels being handled to roughly are issues usually limited to gloss works.

Problem is, they are the only ones in Europe that can do the liquid gloss finish at a certain scale (plus the precise chemical compound is something of an industry secret) otherwise we would have already switched suppliers. This is also why they are hard for us to manage. Every time we have an issue like the photo you send us, we have an angry conversation, things improve for a while, but somewhere down the line they are bound to slip or screw up again.

One thing we do now is always check the back of all works as well. More importantly what we have decided to do: we found another expert in epoxy and gloss application from the luxury yacht industry and are going to bring production of liquid gloss in house and build our own facility. This will take some time to set-up but we think it should be doable for us to switch this year.

-

So, that is great and all, but why is that the end-users problem/worry? Keep in mind that the pictures showing the damage are less than two months old.

I suppose there's some solace in the fact that they admit there are problems/issues with the dibond backings

Perhaps in communication with them, demand careful inspection of the back on any future prints?

Doesn't really solve the immediate damage though

I guess I should clarify what I meant

You should say something along the lines of

"I am very particular about my art pieces, please ensure there is no damage anywhere to the art print including the back dibond piece. I will be very disappointed if the quality isn't up to what I expect from C & B" etc.

I never really felt I got the Liara art I wanted. The first two were also rather aggresive in their poses, and that's not always how I imagine Liara.

This one by Daryl Mandryk was good and quite rare (until now):

The SDCC-one by Anthony Palumbo was decent, but there was something about the face (and hair) I didn't like.

And the one by James Flames was just atrocious, in my opinion that is.

So I went ahead and commissioned a new one. It should be noted that it is not final (so it's rough, and there are a few flaws).

Random thought: I wonder what Sam Spratt charges (the artist who did the recent Saga-litho).

Alice is awesome. How much does such a thing cost?

I won't disclose the price that we agreed on, but it's lower than her current rates.

And her commissions are now closed, and I can knowingly say than even a high offer isn't going to change that at the moment.
