So I have it on pretty good authority that what Zavvi is doing with Dark Souls is not a one time event but something Zavvi intends to release every once in a while.
Not sure on the frequency of releases but basically Zavvi will be releasing new steelbooks for previously released games.
Exact details haven't been revealed but I imagine they will focus some of their effort on older games that didn't have a steelbook release. My opinion of course
So what are your thoughts about this?
Do you like the idea of even more VG steels?
I do but I'm rather mad when it comes to VG steels :rotf:

I have heard this too, I kinda hope it's true, although I certainly hope that they make the releases limited to one per month at most, as their current "minimum 4 per month" movie steelbook releases are almost crippling me >.< xx

Yes Zavvi certainly seems to be releasing the most steelbooks from what I can tell
Really touting themselves as the home of steelbooks too lol
I hope they keep it to 1 a month as well but we'll see
VG steels have become so much more common now

Now if they'd just be more common over here in the states! ;)

Hmm steelbooks are picking up in the states but not very much
There has been consistent blu ray steel releases in the US for awhile I think but VG steelbook releases are less common for sure
Germany and Canada have the biggest interest in steels probably due to having steelbook factories in those countires for the longest amount of time
I think germany had the first steelbook factory
I would love if the US starting getting more steelbooks like the ni no kuni steel

Zavvi ship to the states. You guys get different steelbooks from Zavvi compared to what we get though. International customers get the much more common "concave style" steelbooks. :D

Grrrrr :nea:
*Off to order more copies of the dark souls steel
I think 20 or so should net me a single mint copy right? :rotf:
They better not screw it up

I think it's a crap idea. Just look what has hapened to Bluray movie steelbooks. Once upon a time they were only released for current films and became quite collectable - now every movie and his dog has a steelbook and it's just unsustainable for the average collector with a budget.
If this is just gonna be the odd release then fine but if they're gonna just flood the market then people who already have the game who just happen to like steelbooks are gonna be royally pissed off and die-hard steelbook collectors are just going to see it as a devaluation of the hobby.
It looks like just another attempt to squeeze the last drop out of current gen before the new machines arrive and i can live without it ta very much.

This is why I stopped collecting steelbooks in general, I only buy the ones for my favorite franchises, but I'm glad steelbooks are more common in VG.
I think the dark souls steel will be rare in the future, they pulled it out of nowhere, the hype for that game is dead and nobody cares about it.

I told you once already I'm pretty boring and am just fine with the regular flat steelbooks. Don't really care for the "concave style". They don't have to take the extra effort to send us these.

What are these 'concave style' steelbooks you guys are talking about? I have steelbooks from all over the world for both VG & Blurays and haven't seen any noticeable difference between them. :???:
As for Zavvi selling steelbooks for older stuff, I think it's a great idea. I've bought a few steelbook versions of movies lately but they were for either movies I really loved or I didn't have a copy of it in the first place. I'm not going to go nuts and order every single movie or game that has a steelbook...
...well, games maybe if they're cheap enough. :D

Granted these aren't necessarily examples of zavvis damaged steels but you get the picture
They just meant that zavvi don't always pack very well

If you'd rather ship the steel to a UK address and have it forwarded with proper packing to limit the chance of it being zavvied up, just let me know Swifty ;)

Thanks for the offer mate
I have yet to get anything from Zavvi myself to be honest but have heard the horror stories and all that
I will give them at least one chance and see what they make of it

I gave Zavvi a chance once.
They sent me a ball of trash in a jiffy bag.

Ahh, haha, I get ya. ;)
I've ordered a fair bit from Zavvi/The Hut and the steels have always arrived in one piece. Some other larger items didn't fare so well.
I did however order RE6 steelbook edition from another UK company and it arrived as if some fat dude sat on it.

I think a reprint of the mirror's edge steelbook would be awesome as I want it for a reasonable price. Might happen as Mirror's edge 2 has just been announced.
fingers crossed
as for zavvi packaging, steelbooks/games/dvds/blurays all come in that shitty jiffy bag so its sods law on it mate
bigger items have been getting packaged a little better but not great

Zavvi has new packaging for steelbooks, similar to the Play.com packaging (although Play's is still better) xx

I wish someone would find a way to get a response from scanavo to settle once and for all...how many mirrors edge steelbooks did they make?..are they really the rarest of the bunch?...or is it just a mythical unicorn status because we make it out to be in our heads..what if scanavo said..it was the same standard run as every other steelbook during that time frame?

I think it's quite safe to assume it was a standard run of 4000 or more
I think it's the age and desirability that dictate the price on ME personally

This has been my thought about these for a long time.
Seems like a lot of people have them and there's often one for sale.

Me, too. I mean spain is one of the biggest countries in europe, I can understand that steelbooks from the netherlands (Assassins Creed Brotherhood, Gran Turismo 5, Call of Duty Black Ops Stickerbook, Star Wars the force unleashed) or belgium (Killzone 3, Uncharted 3 Stickerbook) or austria (saints row 2, army of two) are very rare but steelbooks from spain with a population of nearly 50 Mio.people?
