Introduction

Hello everybody!

I'm Dreamcore otherwise known as Leyton from England. Some of you may already know me as Pudge on this forum(previous account a few years back). I apologize in advance for opening a new account but the old name was a bit outdated for me now and I'd like to keep most of my names on various sites recognizable.

I have been reading this forum for many years now, I have an interest in collecting and I am mainly a collector of Bioshock and Assassin's Creed pieces although I have a few other bits and bobs from other games.

Some of you may be questioning the title of this thread.. well question no longer! I am a very arty and creative person, especially when it comes to things I am interested in: namely my games! If you read my threads a few years back you would remember some models I had made of some of my favorite game characters from both Guild Wars and DoTA. As a reference, I have linked these threads below although they are outdated by now.

Assassin's Creed Revelations: Masyaf Edition

About a year and a half ago I had an idea of making an entire edition of a specific game. It would be a custom edition, a one-off, something I had made from scratch, something that contained various artworks by me and something that I could call my own. It would be unique, an edition that nobody else would have in their collection and I was confident enough in my skills that I would be able to create such a thing. So I began designing and creating. All I can say is it took a very long time but it was worth it and I can now present the Assassin's Creed Revelations: Masyaf Edition.

The Box

This was an old wooden box I acquired. The lettering is painted on top and the box has then been sanded to give it an old look and feel. The lettering has then been covered in matt varnish to give it a smarter finish. The 3D assassin symbol has been attached to the front of the box with a split so it completes when it is shut.

The Masyaf Key

The Masyaf Key was by far the hardest part of this entire edition; so hard in fact that this was the second version after I was not satisfied by the outcome of the first. This was made using crafting foam and a scalpel to cut all the lines and glyph symbols. I then painted it twice with undercoats and a final grey to give it the stone look I was searching for. It looks even better in real life!

Ezio's Letter & Feather

The feather took a fair bit of searching to find the right one, but as soon as I saw it I knew it was perfect! The letter was made using a light grey coloured card that was soaked in tea juices. While it was still wet I ripped some of the edges to give it an aged look before hanging it up to dry. The writing was the hard part. I used a calligraphy pen which turned out to be incredibly hard to write with, but it ended up fairly blochy-looking and actually looks like it would if it was written with some ink and a quill.

The Steelbook

Unfortunately these pictures do not really do this steelbook much justice. It is incredibly hard to capture the front and back of the steelbook so I will try to explain it the best I can. My idea was to have a blank antique white steelbook that had an embossed look. To start I took an old steelbook that I didn't want and sprayed it in an antique white colour. Instead of actual embossing, I used a high-gloss laminate to cut out the parts for the front and back. On the front is the famed symbol of the Assassin's and on the back is the phrase 'LIVE BY THE CREED'. Inside the steelbook is one of my favorite concept artworks of the Masyaf castle. Again, this steelbook looks 100% better in real life.

Inside the box and underneath

For the inside of the box, I painted the whole bottom part black which actually gave an unexpected rough look that matched the outside. I then painted the Assassin symbol and the very popular Assassin's maxim 'NOTHING IS TRUE; EVERYTHING IS PERMITTED' in a bright silver paint which stands out very well. I have signed the underside of the box.

Wow that's very impressive custom piece
I love that steel book and I am wondering how you made it

And I think twisted symphony can change a users name
I've seen it happen once or twice

That's what I though but how did you get the picture underneath/inside the spine section of the steel book?

That's what I though but how did you get the picture underneath/inside the spine section of the steel book?

I found a video on Youtube explaining how to remove the plastic insert and also how to get the spine off without denting it(since it is stuck on).

Basically you use a credit card(or similar) to put between the steel and plastic and wiggle so that they part, then pull them apart. The spine had to be held over some steam(I put water in a pan and put it on the stove) then slowly slid the credit card through the gap between the metal spine and the plastic edge.

Once you have got it all apart you have to clean the glue off of the spine and the area where the spine was originally. You need adhesive remover(harder to get hold of in this country, but lighter fluid usually works just as well).

You need to print your picture to the correct size and with markings so you can cut it into the three sections(front, spine, back). Put the front and back pieces into the correct steel parts and push the plastic insert back into place. For the spine you need a very thin roll of double sided tape(I used 6mm). Put the double sided on the plastic outside and stick your spine image the correct way up facing in. Then put another piece of double sided on top of the part you just stuck down and do the same again this time with the metal spine.

I typed this pretty quick, so I am not sure if it all makes sense but if not you can type in something like how to make custom steelbook art into Youtube.

Hope this helps!

Very nice customs

Especially like the steelbook :thumb:

I've seen other inserts behind the plastic but the lettering on the front and back is truly impressive :notworthy:

Thank you for the info yes it all made sense
And 3m make a pen called "sticky stuff remover" I use it for getting residue and dried on old sticky tape from case and surfaces
