View Full Version : It's an occupational hazard...

Heya peeps - just wanted to add our collection to... the... collection...

Something you should know - my fiance works at a place that sells games and is VERY into his job. This is the result with my own crazy thrown in... You'll notice the entire collection of series one and 2 skylanders are missing... they're in a box in the closet, it was just becoming too much...

We are feebly trying to resist the Disney Infinity... must... resist... must... no... more... room!!

Let me start with MY precious - The amazing Game of Thrones collection -
(Hey, it's a game! ... that's based off a show that's based of a series of books! It passes, right?)

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo12_zpsaf513fae.jpg

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo22_zpscb27d159.jpg

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo32_zps5f1a4c70.jpg

This thing was a beast to make - yeah.... I made it. Glutton for punishment, right? Soo much printing, staining, and polycrylic - not to mention each and every sigil had to have 4 eye hooks screwed into each one. My thumbs still hate me.

More stuff I made - including the amazing and wonderful full sized dragon eggs - each weighing in at a stunning 13-15 lbs. What? I'm serious about my GoT addiction, don't judge me.

Maesters Apothecary Kit

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/aothecarykit2_zpsb7678b26.jpg

House sigils and misc stuff - (the Kazoo of Winter is not pictured but it exists... oh yes... beware.)

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/thenight_zpsfac846f5.jpg

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/flippedHouseJewellwheatley_zps8ae6917a.jpg

Ok, WHEW! Now that that's outta my system! Here are all the other crazy things we have to occupy the spacings in our house! (The moment you've all been waiting for!)

The Bioshock Wall is placed firmly above the television, making it a focal point of the collection... too bad it's in such a sorry state! We have a few things on the way though: The motorized patriot, the 5 11X16 vigor posters, and of course the Devils Kiss vigor bottle that he knows nothing about... he thinks I am getting him a playstation, honey, PAHLEEZE.

**DISCLAIMER!** Picture quality on these is pretty terrible - sorry about that.

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo33_zpseabef49c.jpg

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo13_zps4b122cc6.jpg

The Overflow Shelf (as I like to call it) houses things mostly that are one-ofs... they aren't part of a set so they end up here. We still love them just as much as the others and they know that so their feelings don't get hurt for being excluded from the main group. (Some of them are very sensitive...???)

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo52_zpsf30d6623.jpg

Yeah, see those little wooden baby figurines!?!? Yeah, he wanted to put those in a box but I told him NO. This is what he gets for moving in with a girl. Right next to the Bond collection... it's perfect!

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/lastofus_zps99f488ad.jpg

Finally - the meat - the bulk - the Wall of Glory. Now, this is where most of it lives and I realize that it dwarfs some of your amazing collections but it's an ever-growing work in progress... it's also an occupational hazard.

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo21_zpsa8cd75cf.jpg

Lets talk Assassins Creed...

You see that litho in the middle? You have that litho and haven't gotten around to framing it? Let me share a little secret we learned the hard way when we bought frames for all of our other lithos last week - this will not fit in a standard 8x10 frame. It's actually 10.5 inches tall - thus requiring a custom made frame for it. It's a very cool piece - however - it comes with a lot of curse words.

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo31_zpsedcca806.jpg

More random stuff -

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo51_zpsef066744.jpg

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo1_zpsc32f05ed.jpg

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo3_zps7d55e22b.jpg

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo41_zpsd6acb08f.jpg
(GO A'S!)

And finally.... tin can man...

http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae336/A573561/photo11_zpsbff149f8.jpg

He probably also has every strategy guide ever made for every game.... but that's a pretty boring set of pictures so I will spare you. The collection of Portal posters (x6), Assassins Creed posters (cept the one...), and all the tins and special boxes are in the office - I only have so much room and believe me - asking him to store some of it in there was like asking him to chew off his arm... like a little spark inside of him died... like I just ate the last cookie... It was hard, but we got through it.

That's mostly it! He has some other stuff in random places like all the classic games and classic gaming systems - (If I ever get the urge to play Dragon Warrior on the original Nintendo I'm pretty much set...) - but the collection itself is very spread out... not a lot of one thing just a lot of a lot of things..

Anyway, I hope you've enjoyed your stay in my living room - can I get you some coffee? Perhaps some lemonade?

I made them with red clay- took about 2 weeks to build them, then fire them, then they have to go through a second high firing then painted. I made a few broken dragon eggs for candle sconces too but ran outta steam and never painted em. They're still pretty neat tho.

You mean the ones with all of the house sigils or the ones with the direwolf on it?

The ones with the direwolf I doctored from an invitation from season 2 and nailed it to our front door. Just printed the image on parchment paper and nailed it to a stained board.

I can check with him and see... the strategy guides are going to be a bit of a sensitive subject... when we moved into our house we just didn't have room for all of them so most of them (95% of them..) were packed in boxes and left in the garage.

Of course, the water heater decided to rust out and flood the garage a few weeks ago-

Needless to say, a LOT of things were damaged - the boxes of strategy guides being one of them. We haven't had the gumption to go through the boxes to assess the damage yet and it's going to depend on how he packed them - side by side or one ontop of the other... and since they were the heaviest of the boxes in the garage, all of them went on the bottom of the stack. Of course.

Today's words of wisdom: got stuff packed in your garage? Make sure they're packed on pallets! You never know when your water heater is going to decide it's had enough.

It will be a very sad day when we finally go through all of it (Next bulk waste pick up day...) ... I'm sure tears will be shed. :skull:

No worries - it definetely hurts him more than me... I love havnig a collection of stuff out to look at and it makes me happy but things in boxes just irritate me...

He and I have been together for 2.5 years and he's had his (amazing) job for 5 - so I'd say that most of the older stuff (fallout, bioshock 1, any ACBC (Assassins Creed Before Conner) he brought with him. It certainly makes gift buying for him easy - he usually won't spend a ton of money on the collectible stuff because he would rather buy the new games. Usually. There are those times though (Especially now with their business trip coming up) that he will get a lot of the newer games and systems (yeah, seems systems too... yay new toys!!):bananayes:

As far as the glorious Game of Thrones collection - I started creating that wonderful mess in November of last year so that we could have a premier party on the 31st on March. We had 13 people over all together and it was a TON of work! We made all authentic food from the show (thanks to the amazing cook books I got from Santa..) among a mess of other things. I even wore a costume.

We threw such an amazing party and the prep for it was so much fun - I wrote a blog about everything I did - a very healthy blog with a total of 15 very descriptive posts describing the decor, the food, the Clegagne doggie bags (get it? HA!) recipes, the whole bit. I've become somewhat of an expert on the Game of Thrones parties... so if you need some ideas let me know and I'm happy to help! If you want to check out the blog, it's at gameofthronesparty.blogspot.com.

(Hurry up and finish the books, George!!!) I love GoT...

I'm glad to be here guys! I'm glad I was able to find an online community that covets the coveting as much as I do! Thanks for all the praise - I'll keep you posted on the new and awesome things that will be joining our collection soon! Of course if you have suggestions or questions or need something from me I'm a pm away!

I get the frustration with custom frames, especially when buying from the USA. In the UK we have the A system (A1, A2, A3 Etc) so there are no frames made for American sizes......Every Mass Effect litho I have needs a custom built 24x18 inch frame :(

Thats crazy! I'm pretty sure that 24x18 is a pretty standard poster size around here - at least it is when you're buying bulletin boards... (sorry at work - suplly orders on the brain...)

Those custom frames aren't cheap either. My fiance has this beautiful poster that's about 11 inches tall and 4 feet wide with tons of charecters from tons of games on it together that he got from Game Informer and it's amazing... when we took it in to get a frame? 247$. I told them it might be a good idea to offer their customers a good stiff drink before delivering news like that...

Gazereths
08-23-2013, 09:58 PM
11 inches by 4 ft is a quite unusual size so I can kind of understand it being expensive (still a stiff drink would dull the blow LOL).....But 24x18 inches is just a little bit bigger (or maybe a bit smaller, can't remember atm) than an A2 frame, but because it isn't mass produced I have to pay a specialist frame company to make them for me.......fucking sucks.

Usually (If it's a bit smaller) you can go for the standard A2 size and just get a custom mat made for it - if you see the Elizabeth picture in my collection, that sucker is a weird size so we just got the standard size frame and had a custom mat cut for it and it was only $30... might save you a bit! Now.... if it's bigger? Maybe you can cut it down??

:banned:

lol jk, that's bad advice...

Gazereths
08-23-2013, 10:15 PM
Now that you mention that I know it's slightly bigger because I bought an A2 portfolio to store my unframed lithos and they wouldn't fit, I ended up buying an Itoya 24x18 portfolio from nipperkipper (http://collectorsedition.org/forums/itrader.php?u=715) who imported 2 from the USA and kindly sold me the spare at cost.

I'd REALLY hate to cut any of my lithos down, even though I know I could do a good job after working at a print finishers for a year........I'll just have to suck it up and pay a premium.

Well... The air freshener is... Uhh... Special edition... Yeah... That's it...

Guess I should print an assassins creed poster on label paper and cover it so its a little less of an eye-sore, huh?

And that on the bottom left is a Mario keychain- tin can man used to be holding him up on the ceiling fan but Mario is kinda a chunky butt so alas, he's stuck on the shelf of shame with the girly crap... And the bond collection...

My head is spinning at the moment... I was just told that Sony is giving him (the man..) a PS4 and 7 games for it... My questions is where the heck does he expect we're going to put all this stuff!?!?!

Time to do some spring cleaning... where did I put that shovel???
