Bought a Dark Souls prepare to die edition from a 3rd party thats fulfilled by Amazon.

It was sealed because it was bought new, but it has many small scratches on the inside edges...

Is this normal, as in, no steelbook is perfect even when new?

I'm assuming you are referring to the Zavvi steelbook with slipcover

Steelbooks don't necessarily ship from factory perfect but most due

There are always a couple exceptions though

Did it have the standard Y fold?

Hey thanks for the response. Im new to strelbooks. And yes it came with a slipcover... though the scratches are on the inside edges of the steelbooks. You know where the two corners meet when the steelbook is closed?

The scratches appear as if the two ends were pressed hard and rubbed onto each other.

I hope that makes sense lol.

Whats a Y fold? I assume its the fold that allows you to open the steelbook with ease?

Yeah that happens

Perfect steelbooks do exist though and the consisitency of quality is far greater on steelbooks than any competing metal case

I have never received a Metalpak for instance that wasn't full of microscratches on every corner of it

A Y fold is a type of seal

It can only be done by a specific machine so resealed games would be easy to spot if they originally had a Y fold seal

Just asked amazon to grt it replaced! One day shipping too!

And i also asked to have the steelbook packed in cardboard, rather than envelope. I think the envelope and its flimsiness dis the damage

Sorry for the typos. Im on my phone and its a hassle. Hey i didnt make any mistakr so far. Damnit!

Just give my experience of this here:

When a steelbook is packaged in the plastic it can sometimes be difficult to tell if it has scratches.

I got a Metal Gear Rising steelbook a few months ago and thought I saw scratches on it while it was in its plastic protective case, so I decided to open it up to investigate further. Turns out it was just material stuck inside of it, and there were no scratches on it.

So, what I'm saying is, it can maybe be sometimes hard to tell under the plastic covering!

Only way I can think of is to take the spine metal bit off and try to flatten it that way

Doubt you'd be able to fix it otherwise

Would require you re-gluing the spine back on

I don't really recommend it personally

Would just try to return/refund personally

Heat the spine (hairdryer works) then use something flat and wide (eg. metal ruler wrapped with cloth) to slowly push the spine down. You have to do it very carefully as the spine gets creased very easily. This one can be fixed pretty good unlike corner dents.

Yes I've had lots of practice messing about with the damaged steels I have :D

Haha that actually worked thanks a lot! It looks perfect as if it was never dented before lol.

Btw, new question guys!

I bought the G2 steelbook for deus ex HR as well. Bought it for $65. The steel was shipped internationally using bubble mailer. There are two minir scratches on the front.

Now there are scratches elsewhere too but theyre hidden.

How would you guys react if this happened? Jut curious if Im crazy for thinking about this too much. It was perfect in the sellers picture, but the bubble mailer man... lol

Edit: im seriously considering getting this airbrushed professionally by someone... Do airbrushing services exist?

Edit: just realized that all of my damaged steelbooks were packed in bubble mailers....

Decided to customize my deus ex g1 and added artwork inside. In case you guys arent aware or forgot, the inside of the steelbook is blank with no designs.

Blank steelbooks? Pfft bring it on!
