It may not be so fair comparison as the postal service price of source of origin come into play. Also the AC4 Black Chest edition seems like a huge box as opposed to Drakengard 3 CE. I just gave it out as how high shipping cost can be.

Shipping of $21 is not delightful (given the worse CAD these days), but I'm totally in for a copy.

It depends. PlayAsia is known to have (at times) ridiculous inflated prices.

Plus, if the CE isn't "that big" or too heavy, it might not cost too much to ship.

I think this is digital river, not treehouse..but they are just as bad, they send in boxes with zero protection, then they have a no refund policy..as long as the game works, even if the packaging is dinged/dented, they consider that a cosmetic issue, does not affect the game..so they refuse to allow you to return it.

how are these coming in and out of stock?..i dont understand?..where still months away from release, so it cannot be stock that was returned or cancelled orders?..because digital river makes you acknowledge a disclaimer where orders cannot be cancelled or returned after you commit to it...i think instead of 5,000 they may have maybe printed another smallish run...maybe now theres 5,999 of them?..since there not individually numbered..they could just do "estimates" or round ups etc.

Well selling 5000 copies I believe isn't consider successful from a financial point of view for a video game company.
That might impact if they make another LE/CE but not if the decide to make [another] game/remake.

If they have used this marketing sgrategy, be sure that they will keep an Ace hidden...

I think this is the first time i've ordered from the square enix store so I have no point of reference. Looking at my CC statement now though, I don't see any charge and then refund, I just see nothing at all from square. In saying this though, I never see charges with NISA when they do their temporary holds either. I doubt CE will appear on amazon. They are meant to be "limited to 5000" and are already sold out. Lack of preorder numbers of regular edition probably forced them to explore other retailer options.

I have a feeling there's more than 5000?...others tell "little white lies" about productions numbers..so why not US Square Enix?..especially when they hear and see about the demand on-line...and the buzz surrounding it..why leave potential profit on the table?

So I decided back when this CE became available that I wasn't going to go for it. I LOVE limited and rare stuff just as much as the next person, but the game just didn't grab me.

Well,....... seeing as it's available again,.......I broke done and secured a copy.....ugh I hate myself.

Why? Because I told myself to hold off on it and save the money. That's why I hate myself...

I got caught up in the hype and seeing it with a big "SOLD OUT" sign on the website, plus seeing it's increase in value caused me to pull the trigger. Well, that and not knowing if I'll get this opportunity again to secure it for my collection. Figured I can claim one, and then I can always cancel it if need be. At least this gives me the choice huh...

But I don't know how exited I am for the game itself. I've never heard of the Drakengard series until the announcement of this game, and looking at the gameplay vids leaves me unimpressed.

While the cutscenes look utterly brilliant the gameplay and graphics during gameplay don't. I admit I haven't seen much of the game but the first area is bland and grey looking. Plus I see a lot of screen tearing.

I was surprised to see this thing initially sell out at 5000 copies and limited to the SE website when the game seems super niche and unimpressive.

So please tell me what makes you all excited for this game and it's CE? How did this sell out so fast? Where does this game shine?

I sincerely want to know because, as of now, I have a CE incoming and I want to be just as excited as you all are.

NIER had some rough edges, but from a video games as art perspective--which I am always happy to take when appropriate--it is a god damn master piece. If this game can capture some of what made that so special, then it's worth every penny and then some. That's my reason for being excited for Drakengard 3.

I'm not sure what the answer to that is. But it's not like the FFX CE where they just said that it's "EXTREMELY LIMITED". Here they actually tell you how many are being produced. I don't know if that matters though...

I played Drakengard 1 and 2 but not Nier because I was a late PS3 adopter and Nier was so low number printed it's hard to get a copy.

Drakengard is like... Action RPG + Panzer Dragoon if you know what I mean. There are missions that rides dragon and fight panzer dragoon style and once you unmount the dragon you are hack and slashing armies. Weapon can be changed and skills can be learnt with enough kills with the weapon.

It was bloody fantastic and one of my favourite game too.

BTW, I think it's way too early to be worried about SE producing more copies. It's still listed as 5000 on their site and SE hasn't changed that number or made an official statement as of yet.

I'm aware Namco upped the production run of ToSC from 15000 to 18000, but the fact that Dymblos was recently able to secure a copy before it IMMEDIATELY sold out again has me willing to bet these copies are from the same run of 5000 just coming back in stock again.

So I don't think there's any need for us to cry foul just yet. At least I hope...

It depends. It is sort of like Metal Gear Solid situation where the timeline is fucked across the games.

It can be interesting if you played Drakengard 1 and 2 and found out the truth in Drakengard 3. Can get the OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH moment.

Hmmm,... I think I'll watch a walkthrough of the games on YouTube. I REALLY love dark depressing stories, so I'm thinking it's worth watching them for at least that reason.

Okay, now I'm thinking one of two things has occurred. One, they have decided to produce more copies of the CE due to demand or because they're not selling many regular copies so they're not only putting the game on Amazon, but are making more of he CE to cover low sales.

Or two, as a marketing ploy, they closed off preorders with a sold out sign long before they sold out so that they drive demand and could occasionally bring it back into stock to guarantee sales.

Because there's no way 100's of people just decided to cancel their order recently. It's been back in stock too long and I'd imagine quite a few people have ordered it the past couple of days seeing it back in stock again. So something doesn't seem to add up.

Weird. I'm wondering if these will be numbered or not. The FFX hd CE isn't numbered but that wasn't given a number, just "extremely limited".

This item has an actual production number so it would seem it's meant to be numbered.

Can anyone think of a past CE where they actually stated a specific production number but didn't number them? I can't think of any, and stating a specific number would be meaningless without numbering the physical package.

Again with the FFX CE it would make sense since it's just highly limited without an actual production number, but in this instance it wouldn't seem to make sense.

another one that comes to mind is how Rockstar stated in the US the MAX PAYNE 3 collectors edition was going to be at first EXTREMELY LIMITED..with a preorder window at Gamestop for ONLY 2 WEEKS!!!...then "2 weeks" turned out to well over 2 months, and the price crashed on it down more than 75%.

I was just on Square Enix's store page and apparently their collectors edition is back in stock. I bought one myself. Perhaps they are rationing out the 5000 CE's? I know it WAS originally out of stock a while ago. My guess is that the started selling a certain amount of them each month and people didn't keep checking up on something that they thought was "out of stock"

look at SRIV GOTG edition... that was "limited" with a limited numbering plaque and next thing you know they were still being sold on amazon, a month or less after it was sold out.

Very true. It's a very niche series, and SE having little to no marketing for it--and the CE being a SE store exclusive on their shitty store to boot--certainly aren't helping. They may have cut the pre-orders off from the first round at a set number to save some for later. Or maybe they cancelled all of play canada's orders, so like half the stock opened back up... lol

It was about a week for SRIV if I remember correctly and I trust video companies less and less because of stuff like that. I do not like be played for a sucker while game companies feel it's alright to lie to their customers and take our money. If you are going to say you are making X copies make X copies. If not just say its a super limited edition and make 10 million for all I care. Just do not put a number on it if you have no intention of sticking to it.

I am not saying SE is doing that here but you should not be alright if a company decides to change the edition size.

The European CE wont have a physical game but a download code instead. The same was for the Child of Light Deluxe Edition.

Yeah I completely agree. Even though I do like CE's without the game, I do need the game in so form of physical media. I CANNOT STAND digital-only releases for big games.

Now COL I do make an exception for since the game is actually only available via download rather than Draken which already has a physical form.

Thanks for letting me know, but I would also have to deal with custom taxes and it's just not worth it. On top of that, I would prefer the pal version. And the Pal version doesn't include a physical copy of the game.

Supply and demand is what most companies usually do, although at times in order to get more spotlight, they limit the supply and attract more potential buyers that way.
Sometimes people just want what they can't get.

It seems more likely to me that the 5000 just didn't sell out as fast as originally thought (which makes sense, it did sell out surprisingly quick). Either they posted the SOLD OUT thing and then kept putting more up to trick people into thinking it was in extremely high demand, or a lot of people have been cancelling preorders or SE have been cancelling people's orders due to them maybe trying to order more than 2. I think if they were dicks and were just milking this, it wouldn't still be limit 2 per customer.
