Hi there,
I just found your website and forums and thought I'd introduce myself. I am the Sr. Manager of Sony Worldwide Studios Fabrication Arts & Design group. We get to make a lot of cool stuff, including some live action and tradeshow costumes, contest prizes, promotional items, collectibles and whatnot. Here's a few items from my collection, including some unreleased stuff...
Enjoy,
Gary

That helghast helmet looks way better than the normal one. Lots of amazing stuff. :notworthy:
So with all these nice items at work, how do you guys decide who gets to take what home? I'm guessing as snr manager you get 1st dibs on everything :beach:
Hi Swift Death,
Glad you like it. The dagger was one of my favorite projects. I'm still amazed how popular it is.
I have a couple of other favorite projects that are work related (I also make stuff based on movies that like):
Our 9' Kratos
http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp320/garybarth/477E836F-CA2A-491E-B024-F4DD2CE73A18-4752-000002CDA16CD27A_zpsbac0766e.jpg
And our Journey Statue

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really love project managing all this stuff. I wish I could keep everything my group makes but sometimes, we only make one...like the clicker bust which is now on display at Naughty Dog. I do try to keep one of everything, though.

Just like everyone else, I am in awe of your collection. To echo Mortal, that Journey statue is beyond words.
Also, not sure that I would have a place to put a 9' Kratos but I'd sure as heck try :). Might be a good anti-theft device in my house--could look pretty intimidating in the dark!

Oh my god.
This is my new favourite thread. I think my favourite is the sly cane and the Resistance carbine. But as a PS collector, I want all of that badly.
Well, thanks for the warm welcome. Like you guys, I love collecting this stuff. My office at work and at home is jammed with statues, prop replicas, even full sized statues. A few years back, I made a Blade statue because I liked the movie and I wanted to make something different than a lot of collectors have. It was a fun project. Here's a couple pics.

I get to work with an extremely talented bunch of vendors, many i've been friends with for more than a decade and we all hit conventions like Comic-con and Monsterpalooza together. Some of them work in the collectibles industry, others are in special effects. To give you some background on the Journey statue, that was sculpted by Tim Miller who has done work for Sideshow and DC Direct. You might remember the two Lara Croft Premium Format figures he made.

Just wow! :notworthy:
Thanks so much for coming and sharing with us!
With just a handful of pictures you've put so many of our collections to shame!
Lol! I wish I had sculpting skills. No, I step in when needed to build last minute costume pieces or mockups of Collectibles. I leave all the heavy lifting to my various vendors. It's my job to assess who's skillset best works for the project and hire them, and then oversee the project. Sometimes I'm just providing reference pics from the game team and making sure vendors are getting paid. Other times I'm sourcing the right type of material for a project, trying to figure out how to add functionality to a prop, coming up with ideas for a base, or even building a Killzone Sniper costume in my kitchen for a live action trailer.
I can do a lot of things, but my sculpting skills are sorely lacking, I'm afraid. And even the stuff I can do, I leave it to the professionals. I'm okay with an airbrush, but I'm not nearly as good as a guy that does it 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. So when it comes to painting masters, I go with a vendor.

Hi Sorvar,
The bullseye was the first gun that we built. It's made mostly of milled aluminum and weighs almost 30 lbs, which is great for display item, but not so much for carrying around a tradeshow. ;-) it also has pulsing lights and makes the startup sound when you slap the magazine in. I'm very proud of it. So much so, I bought one for my personal collection of sci fi weapons.

Jonkhor,
Lol! I appreciate the enthusiasm, but that kind of a decision is made by someone higher on the food chain than me. However, it is an thought, which is why I was polling people to see what your interest level is and what you thought a fair and realistic price might be.

Wow! Hi Gary! Nice to see someone on the other end of the collecting highway come on here to show their work. A couple of those items are high up my wishlist. Can't say I have seen the God of War statue before, so I will start looking for it from now. :lmao:
Very impressive work by the way.
If you are considering releasing some pieces to the public in terms of limited runs, CE.org right here, is probably the best place to come to. A large number of hardcore collectors are here day in, day out and there are surely a lot more lurkers.
As mentioned by me and flatout in the Infamous SS statue thread, I believe US$200-250 is a good range for the Delsin Rowe statue of that size and I think under US$250 is a good price to look at for Gaming-related collectibles and Memorabilia similar to the ones you posted. Higher than that, it might turn off a lot of collectors.
There is no doubt that there's quality in the products from this company. The challenge would be to keep it affordable :)
Would love to see more stuff from your company and hopefully you can share some behind-the-scenes pics, more pics of your collection and maybe even share news with us first before anyone else! :2cool:

oh and is this Mech Sweeth Tooth figure a prototyp?
Lol! Glad you're enjoying the stuff, as I love sharing it. Both the Journey and Kratos are resin and very heavy.
The "Sweetbot" was something in the last Twisted Metal game. I made it while we were working on the costumes for the live action sequences in the game. I wanted to make it as a contest prize, but the way it was designed in the game, it was just too flimsy and would break too easily as a collectible. Because of this, I decided to do a run of mini Sweet Tooth masks instead. I scanned the mask we had sculpted for the game and reduced the size to about half scale. Here's a pic:

Hi and welcome to the forum Gary! Like everyone has said, we're glad to have you here! Wow,both statues are made of resin, so both are holy grails for sure, very nice!
do you know how much of this both statues where made or a both statues unique?
yeah the Sweetbot looks indeed really breakable, but the sweeth tooth mask is a great alternative, looks really funny, it reminds me somehow of the Death Mask from Darksiders 2! ^^
Hey Guys,
Thanks again for all the kind words...and Knight, I forgive you you that you're more of an Nintendo/Xbox guy. Just kidding! ;-) Competition is all good...it makes us work harder.
I am getting a lot of questions regarding whether or not I'd sell stuff. Unfortunately, right now, the answer is "no". Even if SCEA wouldn't mind, I really like all my stuff and plan on holding onto it for awhile. It makes great decor for my office. You never know though...there may come a time when some of these collectible products are offered to the public. If it does happen, I'll let you guys know.
Barran, I can tell you exactly how many of each exist. I made two Journey statues. One is in a case in our Santa Monica Studios. The other is on a shelf in my office. Regarding Kratos, I made 5 altogether (I know I said I only made 4 earlier, but I forgot that my boss really liked it and had me make one for him). One for the Marketing Dept, One for Merchandising Dept, One is one display in the Manhattan Sony store, I have one and my boss has one.
There ya go! I'll keep digging up pics for you all

Thanks guys, but the real artist credit goes to my talented vendors. I'll build the occasional mockup, but I shop a lot of stuff out. For instance, for the upcoming game, "Counterspy", I built a couple mockups to show what 1:6th scale collectible might look like (can't reveal their choice yet),

Hi Barran,
Most of that stuff isn't PlayStation related. As I mentioned, I'm also a collector, so I pick up stuff here and there. I have a 16'x20" room that I built onto my house that has a lot of stuff too.
I'll take better pics later but I can tell you what some of the stuff is. From the left to right:
A challenge coin set I made for PlayStation Allstars Battle Royale
A army men set we made with Helghast and ISA for Killzone 3
A Necronimicon we made for an Evil Dead/PSN cross promotion event at Comic-con
A Sly Cooper Safe prototype that was never produced (has the games and a museum column with Sly's business card made of printed aluminum)
That Ratchet and Clank space armor statue that Insomniac made (worth a lot, I hear)
A delrin bat skeleton display that I bought at Comic-con
My shelf of 3D printing and prototyping to show people different examples of the medium
A bunch of busts from artists I respect
A bunch of Collectibles, Pacific Palisades Aliens stuff and whatnot

I thought it was one of them...
I Need that. Evil Dead is my one of my childhood favorites

Thanks! Sly looked a little psychotic, but they needed a collectible and only gave me a couple weeks to produce something. Those are the characters the marketing peeps chose. I thought they turned out pretty good.

Hi Barran,
Most of that stuff isn't PlayStation related. As I mentioned, I'm also a collector, so I pick up stuff here and there. I have a 16'x20" room that I built onto my house that has a lot of stuff too.

Fantastic stuff here thanks for joining and sharing.
Oh yeah, cool stuff is coming for the Order:1886. However, I'm not working on the Collectibles on that one. I'm making stuff for the tradeshows for all three regions (U.S., UK and Japan). More on that later...
Ingmar, if memory serves, I made about 200 sets

The Order:1886, holy moly, the bar must be quite high for this one .
Teasing ON
By the way, don't you do some kind of " making off " of your sculpt? I know a lot of people ( me included ) that would love to see the creative process from rough sketches to the final sculpt by showing pictures or even better, a video.

Hey all,
Sorry I've been gone for a few. I went to the Monsterpalooza Convention in Burbank last week (always looking for new talent), and spent the last couple days training on our new Objet 24 3D printer.
Lets see, Merch, I'm afraid I couldn't sell stuff, even if I wanted to. I like my job way too much to jeopardize it for a few bucks.
Underfox, can't really talk much about what's being planned for The Order. All I can say is that my team will be building some amazing displays for E3 and for the other regions' tradeshows as well. I'm really excited about it as I have the budget to do some movie quality stuff....so I've hired some amazing Hollywood talent (sculptors, seamstresses, prop makers). In the words of George Constanza on Seinfeld, "We're takin' it up a notch!" ;-)

Can't wait to see what your idea of "taking it up a notch" is!
Do keep us updated with pics from E3!
Better yet just take me with you! I can get myself there, just need a little help getting through the door lol.

Your sculpts are already fantastic and now your saying you will be taking it up a notch?
http://verastic.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Fainting-GIF.gif
Is there really no way for you to document it and release some kind of mini making off video slightly before showing the statue to the public? Like this video for exemple? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGnPeDVihu0):beg:

Sure, here's a few pics of what I can show (there's concept art and stuff hanging on some walls, so I can't show everything).

Anything from E3 to show us?
Hi there,
I wish I had more stuff to show from E3, but I was in crazy runaround mode. Here's some pics of the Galahad display we made.

Really amazing piece. I'm still surprised it survived with all the selfies that were taken with it.

Lol! No, he's right, I need to dirty him up a bit more. The costume got held up in Customs and I wanted more time with it...but it wasn't meant to be. We literally dressed him the day he was driven to E3. There are some other alterations we're going to make to him as well, but expect him to be a little more battle worn if we take him to PAX.
Thanks,
G

Lol! Yup, one of my vendors built them for me. They did a really awesome job. I just got the Arc gun back here to the office. In a few days, I'll take better pics.
