I wanted to give a heads-up that shortly after E3 we'll be releasing an Okami print collection together with Capcom. Do you have any favorite Okami images?
Also, we filmed all the processes at Cook & Becker. What kind of of company we are. How we make our prints, what a liquid gloss finish is. How we pack and ship our artwork etc. I know some of you were curious :)

Love okami artwise.

Great Video!
I loved seeing the process at how the images are prepared and printed!
Also an Okami print might just be my first purchase from you guys! :thumb:

Thanks!
If you check the Cook & Becker Youtube channel we have detailed videos of all the processes including our packing and handling as I know you guys care about that :)
There is no timing reason for us to do an Okami launch. We just always wanted to do Okami for ourselves as it's such a nice and different game aesthetically and now was our chance! Also, it's kind of a spring/summer game and now we can give it the necessary space before all the end of year blockbuster stuff.
We also want to try and price Okami as affordable as possible and we think it would be a great series for people to try-out a C&B print if they've never bought from us before.

Yes I actually just watching almost all the video.
Very informative!
And I am glad to hear that they may be as affordable as possible! I have only heard great things about your prints, so I for one am excited to see Okami there and the chance to see your prints in person.
Thank you for stopping by and giving us a heads up as always Maarten!

I like the sound of this. ^o^ Unfortunately C&B prints are way out of my price range, but I have heard such great things about the quality of your products. I look forward to seeing what prints are in the pipeline for Okami. I loved Okami and my GF did even more so. Hopefully you will be getting these out before the end of the year as this will make a great Christmas or Birthday present for her. ^o^
Will be keeping an eye on this thread. :D

As a proud owner of the okami artbook ( and it beeing my favourite artbook after Journey ), my choices in print would be the following ( taken from my artbook )

There are so many more I love from the artbook ( one especialy that has a really little space for it on the artbook titled " amaterasu theater, Act XI ( february 24th, 2006 ) which apparently was released for the electronic express post , it's on the page 141 of the artbook, I'll try to take a picture later tonight ) but I don't want to clutter the topic with them, I get carried pretty easily when it come to art XD
Now I stopped working and I'm having a look at the artbook thanks to this thread :woohoo:

The Okami art book is great! One of my faves too. Very well done.
The creative director/art director of Okami is actually quite a rising star in the contemporary art world as well.
I can confirm that some of the images you just posted will be available as a print! Not all, because the resolution is not high enough on some of the archived images, but at least a couple.
Due to archival pigment inks we use and the fine art papers there is always a cost involved that we can't get around, but we'll do our best. I'll update in this thread when I have something more concrete.

kinda random guys, but I was going through some boxes in the garage today looking for something to ship an item and I came across the C&B poster tube. Inside I found a pair of white cloth gloves typically used to handle artwork that I guess I didn't notice before.
Is this a new thing they're including with prints as I never got these before...or is my house haunted by a white gloved specter?

My latest art print from CB gave me the gloves too. Nice touch from them

I'm going for sunset at kamiki village
edit: ouch the SHIPPING FEE +VAT(21%) + VAT shipping(21%) is killing my interesse unfortunatly. from 65€ to almost 100€. I think I won't be able to go for it in the end :sorry:

That we have to charge 21% VAT within the EU is pretty frustrating for us as well. Even with higher shipping it means that the rest of the world usually is off a bit cheaper as we don't have to charge VAT outside of the EU. There is a different tax regime for individual artists (6%) than for studio work but still.

Sizes are always a result of artist opinion, our opinion and what a digital file could be printed at before you get quality degradation...
For Okami, for which the concept art is a mix between water color and digital art our main guideline was: "how large did the artist intend the final work to be" and whether or not a larger size adds to extra impact of the work. In our humble opinion Path of Heaven and Seeking the Celestial Brush Gods were the only ones benefitting a bigger size and Agata Forest, Kamiki Village & Fighting Orochi are now a nice set of equal size.
But take into account that a print which is 35 x 50 + white margin plus matte can easily become a 50 x 65 framed. Which is relatively large for most houses.

Just noticed these were up. Is it ever possible for the general public to purchase #1 through the site, or is that always by reservation only before the prints are listed for sale?
Maarten Brands

No, it is possible to purchase #1's through the site. It is first come first serve mostly.
We alwasy announce through our newsletter first so I'd advice to sign up for that if you want to be there first.

What's up with the price hikes?
Maarten Brands
07-01-2014, 01:12 AM
Experimenting a bit with a new model from the art world whereby the #1 is always the most affordable print and an edition gets progressively more expensive the more copies are sold. This rewards early buyers and early adopters a little bit over those with a wait-and-see approach.
As you may have noticed the Okami prints were quite 'aggressively' priced upon release compared to C&B's other prints. We decided that with the Okami editions once we'd hit 50% sell-through of a print we'd normalize to a more regular sale price by adding +/- 10%

Got it. Never been a big fan of the Euro pricing model... but good for those that get in early I suppose.

For you collectors out there: Okami prints are going very fast. Two editions already sold out, third now very close.

Maarten,
Who is the artist for each piece? Can't find it on the site.
Maarten Brands
07-04-2014, 09:59 PM
It's artwork from these three:
Takeyasu Sawaki, Kenichiro Yoshimura and Mari Shimazaki. The prints in the Okami art collection are made from their artwork. Takeyasu Sawaki is a well-know character designer and art director, known for his work on Devil May Cry and the very special game that is his brainchild, El Shaddai, Ascension of the Metatron. Takeyasu Sawaki exhibits regularly in international art galleries.
Apart from Okami, Kenichiro Yoshimura and Mari Shimazaki are also known for their fantastic character designs for video game Bayonetta and costumes for Soul Calibur.
Their artists' marks are in the prints but I can't tell you which ones which. Also because I think some images are collabs.
