Hi Everyone,

We're very excited about the Drake Ring announcement. We worked closely with Naughty Dog over the last two years to produce a collectible that would represent elements of the rings from all the Uncharted games.

I noticed that some folks mentioned previously released rings, and while those were cool, the ones from the first game were PR pieces that weren't very accurate and the one released with the UC3 Collectors Edition was more of a mass produced piece. For this definitive, officially authorized replica, Naughty Dog went through numerous iterations to make sure they were happy with the size, shape, kerning, materials, and even the presentation box. It was really important that this version be made of solid silver to accurately represent the ring from the games.

And, yes, this is the surprise that ND was teasing a few months back. However, how many of you realized this is the ring featured in the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection teaser trailer that was released last month? Even the display box makes a brief cameo.

The bottom of the box has all the legal text and game logo printed on it, including the "____/1000". Then each box is hand numbered.

I think the PR version from the first game had a 1500 or so produced (that was quite a few years ago, and I didn't work on that project. I do know that they used an "off the shelf" catalog box and printed the logo on it, where this new box was custom made specifically for this project. Also, that original ring got nicknamed "the pipe fitting" by some folks internally because of how beefy it was. ;-)

I believe that original box has a bit more red in the stain, but we did use the original clasp.

We wanted to release something that was designed by ND to make it as authentic as possible.

I don't have final say (ND does), but all ideas will be given consideration as we're looking to create a product line that has something for everyone. Collecting is very subjective which is we want to make our offerings as diverse as possible.

While Journey is a very popular game in terms of its acclaim, I do not think 1,000 statues (even at a good price of $150) will sell out fast.

Take that as just one man's opinion though.

I actually feel bad, I never could get into Journey personally.

Lol! No problem. Whenever we launch a product, I like to hang out and get feedback from collectors. I love this stuff as much as you guys do and at the moment, our gear site doesn't have a way to solicit feedback, so I hit a lot of statue forums to answer questions, provide info, that kind of stuff.

With regard to photography, the ThinkGeek folks usually handle that in-house. The problem was, I was a bit hesitant to send out the one extra master we had in CA because the design is very fragile and without an EPS foam insert that is made specifically for the statue, you could end up with a bunch of broken pieces. I've had bubble wrap and popcorn fail too many times. I had three samples of a large premium format size statue that I'm making for one of our other AAA games show up wrapped in bubble wrap and they were destroyed.

Since the Journey shipment will be at our warehouse by Friday, the ThinkGeek Solutions folks are going to pull one from inventory to take the photos of, so you can see the quality on one of the production statues.

Yup, most things are subjective for sure. You do great work, no one could deny that. Really for me you guys are in the top bracket... my inFAMOUS Delsin statue is the bar for all my other and future statues! :D By far the best quality statue I have owned, it is way better then my Dragonborn statue that retailed for twice as much. You guys offer amazing quality at s price that fans can afford. Some advice though, if moving stock becomes a cost vs. reward issue try to convince Sony they need to release these for or around the launch of their games in that franchise (this will also act as help in marketing for the game too).

Hmmm... Crash? :scratch: I know, I know... could not say but it is fun to guess :D

Can't wait to see all that comes next!

However, stay tuned! I'm working on a bunch of collectible busts, statues and vehicles right now, and some of them are based on some classic PlayStation titles. So, if there was a game that had a good following, but no one made a licensed statue for it back in the day, I just may be tackling it. If you guys have ideas for cool Collectibles, shout them out! Just remember though, right now i'm only making SCEA game based Collectibles.

I really love that statue. I am amazed how you guys can make life sizes statues like that (even more so for the ones of massive scale like the Tianfall Titan and the Evolve Goliath). It is just amazing how much detail goes into most of them.

The bust idea sounds great.

Maybe a bust with the knights but have it be like a mantle of busts with all the knights in one half oval? That way it is one statue. It would be like a display in the building of The Order (like a "here are our honored knights" type thing).

Hi Flatout,

It took 6 vendors to create that statue (including a little fabrication from your's truly), and then I assembled it. Made three of them, actually. The effects company that did the head are close friends of mine, and they recently sent this incredibly kind gift to me to display in my office at Sony.

I think the bust idea is a good compromise. A lot of people can't afford to collect full statues of characters and it also gives us a chance to revisit some older characters. The goal is to keep these in the $75-80 range. Some of the busts will be hard to keep that low because a bust like Galahad has so many paint applications with that detailed uniform. It will also depend on whether we have a pre-existing high res digital model to work with, or if I have to pay a sculptor to create it. But, I'm very excited about doing this line. They will be produced in a fairly limited run (possibly only 300-500 units of each).

Well, thanks for having me. I appreciate the opportunity to talk to you folks, not just as a representative of Sony, but as a fellow collector. I am pretty much responsible for coming up with what we make on this Collectibles line and its nice to be able to bounce these ideas off people. As I mentioned in another post, art is in the eye of the beholder and collecting is subjective, so it's valuable to get input from others. As an example, I almost didn't make the Journey statue because I hadn't had a chance to play the game and it was a downloadable title, vs being a AAA IP like GoW or Uncharted. What a mistake that would have been. ;-)

Just had a long overdue catch up on this thread and so glad I did!

The Journey figure is absolutely stunning in its simplicity and beautiful. The idea of getting it shipped to the UK fills me with fear but if there's one group I trust to package it with 100% care it's you guys as seen with the delicate Delsin Rowe figure.

Love those iPhone pics and can't wait until payday. The sense of movement is so beautifully captured.

Thanks guys. I, too, am in agreement. I have a great Captain Britain statue in my office at Sony that I think is a cool and I've never read the comic in my life. I know that The Order didn't appeal to all gamers but the production design was amazing! I loved working on the statues. And while we may not do another full size statue, I think a Galahad mini-bust would be a nice addition to a line of character busts based on PS games.

1) These first busts are from Uncharted 3 to promote the Uncharted Collection. I'm actually planning a different statue for UC4.

2) There are a few different artists that worked on Drake for the game and various promo art pieces, so if you google him from the 3rd game, you'll find some different versions of him. Now, that being said, I am using the model provided by Naughty Dog, so it is official. No "sculptor's interpretation".

3) Paint makes a huge difference.

Weirdly 'Nate' does not look like Nate in Gary's teaser but when you see the whole bust in bbki's post it makes sense but I'm not liking the sum total. The face is somehow too long, too slim...

I believe ND wanted to use the newest models that they felt best represented the Uncharted Collection, so I am working with what was provided to get the their vision of the character. It's kind of like when I made Drake's ring. It changed a bit from game to game so the team decided to make one that was the best representation of all three.

So 20% sale on top of even most sale items... but when I got ot add things to my cart they show the old sale price and not the new one.

I'm not certain, but I think the watch may not be 1:1 accurate. There should be two metal bands side-by-side on one of the straps, if it's to be in-game accurate. On this watch, as you can see from the pics, there appears to be only one metal band on each strap.

Couple facts about the Uncharted busts...

1) These will be limited edition and numbered. I just need to lock the quantity, which I will do shortly
2) We are very close to locking a deal with SCEE to sell the products I develop in Europe, hopefully starting with these busts
3) I'm still making a few tweaks to the models to make them even better
4) A lot of sculptors are going the digital route (yes, even SS and GG use them). It's easier to control changes to the scale. So, I could hire a digital sculptor to do an entirely new sculpt, but it's more accurate if I use the game model and modify it. Now, that being said, I still love practical sculpts and I will use them whenever it makes sense. Currently, Tim Miller is doing a practical sculpt for a collectible of one our classic game characters.

Good to know they are limited for sure, I assumed they would be. You might want to tell them in the future to add "Limited Edition (Batch size to be announced)" or something like that to it and to future ones. Without it it throws off collectors as you have seen.

I think Ken thought of "3D Printing" and not Sculpting (I thought of it too but kind of knew it could not be the case with nice statues). So might want to have them change that to "3D Sculpted" instead.

I have this issue too, and I see it with Drake a bit. But statues when they do smaller faces almost never look what we think of as a perfect match to in-game (partly due to the change in media, digital to physical).

It is meant to be I am quite certain (though Gary could say for sure), it is just the sculpt that it ended with. It is very hard to translate a face perfectly in such a small figure and a change in media (digital to physical). Most statues never look perfectly like the face we remember from the game.

Yeah status this size and quality usually cost AT LEAST $1,000 on the low end. This price is a steal really. Either way though a lot of money even if it is a great deal in teh world of high end statues.

BTW, Gary said it is even bigger then 1/4 scale.

I think it's just listed and won't be shipped until the 4th, so it's said to be backordered

These were supposed to have been in by today, but they got slightly delayed and the great promotion machine was already locked in place. Someone elected to mark them as "backorder" instead of "pre-sale" for...reasons? I'm told they should be at the warehouse tomorrow and then it just depends on how long they take to check them in and start turning them around. But it's a not great week for counting on things to get done, so we're hedging some on the date to [try to] avoid disappointing folks.

I am wondering if I will be able to get my Zer0 statue from Borderlands? Do you have any idea about that?

The Kratos Statue is back up with new pics. Also they are giving an early adopter discount of $100 off and a free God of War Shirt (you have to have the shirt in your bin at checkout it says).

It is just like the premium format type statues and has actual cloth and leather clothing... and another awesome thing is it has real metal chains like the Delsin statue.

I said this before but I found it amazing, Gary said ti is even larger then 1/4 scale. I have never had a statue this big so if I end up getting one I am not sure where to put it :D

The price is actually quite amazing, 1/4 scale statues like this (of this quality) sell for $1,000 or more (usually more). The great thing is Sony's Fabrication Studio is more about giving amazing quality statues to help their brand... rather then other studios who are selling basically solely for profit.

Tell me about it. I had to move all of mine off one of my display tables just for him... it made me have to crowd all my other onto the top of my Darksiders cabinet. The worst part is I have a couple more figures/statues I just got and that are on the way :facepalm:
