How much is this thing worth? Anyone have a guess on it's price trajectory seeing as how Nintendo releases new versions of the 3DS every year?

NIB and sealed it usually goes between $300-$450 from what I've seen lately. If it's opened prices change based on the damage done to the box since it was so easy to ruin (IIRC). Hope that helps!

I've seen them go as low as $225 as well, but those are usually late-night ending auctions or BINs that only stay up for a few minutes from my experience.

Is this something that will continually go up as time passes? The hardware itself is really outdated.

Usually they hit a plateau and then decline a bit. For instance there was a while where a CIB original NES Zelda cartridge would go well over $100, but now they're usually closer to $75 at tops. SNES ones had a similar price structure. N64 still usually is around $100 or so CIB (not sealed). The DSlite though (more relative to your question) can be found cheaper than MSRP many times "NIB", though if it also includes the larger "PH included Box" the price goes up significantly. So its a bit of a toss-up.

Either way though, Zelda merchandise is almost always worth more than MSRP if you hold onto it. You might miss the peak of the value rise by not selling it at a certain point, but it'll always be worth something to someone. With enough collectors out there I'm sure you could hold onto it for 10 years and try selling it away from the glut of others who are selling theirs now and probably make more -- but with inflation and a "value" ceiling on these (as you mention also the outdated hardware), it could not have much further to rise...

But that's just my opinion -- I make no guarantees on market performance nor do I have a crystal ball! ;)

Hmmmm, that's unfortunate. I was hoping the price would climb to a point where I could trade this in for the complete 2013 SDCC planeswalker set. Guess its more likely it won't happen

packaging also makes a huge difference..look at the packaging JAPAN received compared to the NTSC box..there's is all black but designed in a more elegant way. also theres always going to be that zelda completionist collector who will get any and everything ZELDA nintendo related..as long as it's a mint package and sealed..it probably will at least help you break even or more likely make money in the long run, but it's gonna be awhile..Nintendo needs to move on to like a 4DS etc..all new tech, before 'nostalgia" collecting kicks in.
