Yup, an official release.

Not only has Sony been fantastic in allowing indies to self-publish — since long before it made the news — they don’t limit us to just downloadable games. When they said self-publish, they meant it. Even this one-man-shop was able to self-publish and self-fund a full blown retail version! (...) In the past, you would need to build separate versions of a game for digital and retail and send both into certification. Now with PS4, one single submission can be deployed to both.

Totally agree with that, but this LE, are not only for CE collector's, merchandising, steelbooks, etc....

It will include the retro games collectors as a piece to collect, so maybe that will increase the demand and possibly will be hard to get as the ammount of collectors will be highly increased....

I like the idea of course, as I can always get one copy for me.... :D

if it does become a trend, I want it to be QUALITY titles..like I would loved to see a proper boxed limited edition disc release for something like MIGHTY NO.9 or the new Daytona USA inspired game for wii u that is only DLC "90's arcade racer"..i just don't want to see "shovelware" or warmed over last gen mediocre ports like the limited class of heros 2G...let's not kid ourselves..we bought that because it is a game that is boxed with a limited edition number on it, and as collectors, that appeals to us..but the game is just a warmed over PSP port..that would have been in the dust bin pile..if it went to store shelves...I want to see games that are DL only with a lot of buzz around them, come out on some limited disc format..that would be welcomed!!..LOL..for some reason, they claim MIGHTY NUMBER 9 IS IMPOSSIBLE to come on physical disc..but this game can?..

I've been playing the game on psn for about a week and It's a great game. I'm a little over half way through the story missions.

we've seen this time and time again..it is advertised as some sort of ultra limited exclusive..then they shy away from numbering them..because there's probably like 20,000 of them..and they'd come back say "2000 for the US"..or the other 18,000 don't come with the uber cool exclusive COA"...etc...if it were a real exclusive and there's not dumb and naive, they know it was expected it to be numbered..plus sony is the business of publishing million copies of specific game titles, or whomever or whatever factory does the packaging..i bet there's some MINIMUM run...maybe 10,000?..i doubt you can go in to a factory and have them package small numbers and it be inexpensive and cost effective,.

I'm pretty sure that's more of a courier issue. The game company can't tell you its delivered or not, the courier does, call the courier company and report a claim, they lost your package.

Fear not dude. My UPS on the day of delivery always says delievered on the website but isnt actually delivered until around 3pm, which is around the normal time UPS makes its way to my neighborhood

Is it already late night/evening there? Just wondering if its still "delivery time" or if it is late. Sometimes mine says delivered and the truck doesn't arrive til later. after they hand it off to your regional courier it'll show up as delivered, so you shouldn't worry...but since you already filed the claim I would just leave it open until you physically receive it in case (god forbid) it actually does get lost.

i would suggest snagging one on ebay right now...i think if there truely is only 2000 physical copies worldwide, i'd figure around 500 opened up and played the game, leaving 1500 sealed around the world..plus of those let's say there's 1000 die hard game collectors..since popularity of game collecting is sky rocketing (note all the limited/collectors editions compared to 10 years ago)...i don't think those
"1000" collectors around the world are too fond of selling of their copies no matter what,..i can only seeing this game going up and up in price..i see some on ebay for around $130 or so as of writing this post...i can't see the price going down if the company stays true to their word.....go for it now, so you don't regret it down the road..only if you collect PS4 games..if it's just for the novelty sake, then don't bother..but if you are collecting PS4 games..then there' will be this "void" in your collection...THIS IS THE "NEW" EARTHBOUND for this generation..THIS WILL BE THE "GOTTA HAVE IT" title once PS4 games are done on the market....it also pulls at our retro heart strings....just my 2 cents.

EARTHBOUND is a Super Nintendo game in the US that when first came out was overlooked, undersold, and underappreciated,..it also came in an oversized box, so retailers were reluctant to carrying it because the game also was boxed with a strategy guide..today super Nintendo/retro game collectors are in a frenzy to add this to their collection..it sells depending on condition up to $2,000...but from stories I heard, back in the day retailers had to clearance them off the shelves..go figure.

Yeah I have a Vita and I already have the game on cross buy. I highly doubt that I would use this copy. Just more for the general sake of having a physical copy of it. It's nice having physical copies of games I enjoy! :v: However $34 with the cheapest shipping for a game I don't intend to use, which I already have purchased on download, plus factoring in import fees. If it had a definite limited print run, like the PS4 version and if I had the PS4 version to compliment it, then I would just go ahead and buy it, but I don't know... -_-

I agree! I wish I had of picked up the PS4 version. Limited numbers overdo anything for me when it comes to CEs or games in general. If I had the PS4 version, I'd definitely snag the Vita version (And I don't even have a Vita)...

I pre-ordered the night before the pre-orders closed. Six days (April 2nd - 8th) was all the pre-order was up for before "selling out". Someone on another forum posted speculation, prior to the pre-order closing, that the number of copies made was likely either 3,000 or 3,500, either of which would seem to fit with the short sell-out time imo.

Also the game's creator seemed to insinuate that all copies of the game are/were already produced and in his posession. The "pre-order" was more or less him pre-selling off all of the games before comitting to an official release date so that he could mail themm all at the same time in order to get a bulk mailing/shipping rate. Again, makes sense to me from a small business stand point, especially if he plans to actually package, label, and mail/ship all of the games himself. If he is working on doing it in such manner then the lack of a committed release/shipping date, other than saying "end of the month", makes a lot more sense.

My copy arrived in the mail today! And interestingly, something else arrived with it. ALso in the shipping package was a small vinyl ziplock-type bag containing.:

Retro City Rampage Papercraft character sheet with my first name and order number written there on makes for a rather unique new aspect to this limited edition. The hand written name and order number intrigues me very much as I still can't determine if the "writing" is printed on using a very clever custom font, preset name image, or if it is written using a green felt tip pen. I'm presently leaning towards it being actual hand writting with a green felt tip pen as the old flashlight inspection indicates some level of ink absorbtion into the thick card paper. Can't know for sure though unless I can locate my magifying glass... or maybe someone else can check theirs with a magnifyer to see if that is actual handwriting or a clever print job?

Also I feel the design on the pin/button is likely included at random since it is essentially promotion by FanGamer as a marketting means to reach out to show they offer good quality buttons. The button I received has a lavendar background with purple circle patterns around a green rounded oceanic mine shaped thingy in the middle, haven't a clue as to what it is meant to be artwork of, but the quality of it seems to be very good.

Mine hasn´t shipped yet, though it´s probably going to be a while before I get to receive it anyway. But I was a bit concerned that my order had not gone through, so just checked the site and my order is good, it simply stands as unfulfilled.

The final 3330 game allotment has officially sold out at FanGamer.com, but interestingly a portion of the original 3,000 was apparently sold over to a rather large Canadian game retail site to sell and make life a bit eaisier for Canadian gamer's interested in owning a copy... and they ship internationally.:

Nobody knows how many copies VideoGamesPlus has inventoried to sell, but it likely isn't many, so buy a copy at a reasonable price while you still can!

Good news for a lucky few! Some copies of the PS4 and PS VITA physical editions were saved, in case any original orders got damaged. 59 PS4 and 52 PS VITA copies remain of their original runs, and tomorrow (Wednesday, September 16th, 10am PT) you'll have a chance to get one of them.

To keep things as fair as possible, there's a 1 per customer limit, and to ensure they go to fans, you'll need to answer a constantly changing skill testing question related to Retro City Rampage to access the store when they go on sale.

They will be sold in a bundle with some of the remaining MS-DOS retail editions ($39.99), adding the same price they originally sold for (PS4: +$25 = $64.99, PS VITA: +$30 = $69.99).

No, it's highly likely. A lot of stores withhold a percentage of stock in case of problems. If it was just a case of nor bring made, why bother going to the effort of 1 per customer and having to answer a question to prove you're a fan?

I got one last time purely by chance, as it was while I had partly given up collecting. Allan said he wanted this game (but as always, et me to check if there is a physical copy first), I checked and it just so happened to be the day it had been listed for sale, and I purchased it not long after it was listed/not long before it sold out :rotf: it was only when I came back here that I realised that it was sheer luck that got us a copy :) x

Managed to put an order in too, although I didn´t want to get the DOS version with it, seems like an attempt to get rid of these DOS versions, or did they sell out too?

Oh well, I can probably sell this DOS edition as I don´t intend to use it nor do I collect PC games, should cover half of the expense and still manage to be cheaper than ebay, yay.

Used "player" as the password. Seems like the character is referenced as "the player" so they mentioned you didn´t have to use "the", which gave it away for me.

I have a genuine question as a big collector guy. What makes this edition so valuable? Is it just the fact that it was manufactured in very limited quantities or is there something else into it?

Limited quantity basically is the main reason I guess. Beside the fact that most game companies don't realize that there are a major percentage of gamers prefer physical releases over digital ones. IMO that's the reason why many indie developers now choose to release their games physically.

since the PS4 version is a genuine SONY PS4 game..and down the road your aiming for a complete PS4 game physical library of every PS4 game released..then this one at 2000 copies for the entire world would be a hard one to find in the wild. i'm talking like when PS4 is considered retro 20 years down the road. then this retro rampage dx physical copy will be quite valuable.
