Looks like steelbook, says steelcase and this format. It is either G3, or this fancy digital standard like John Wick from SDCC 2018.

Why did SCANAVO and Microsoft team up and introduce a NEW steelbook size case? for GEARS OF WAR 5!?..it is almost CD size case like in nature..i don't think they would scale the factory up and do development work on that particular size case unless it had more uses for it in mind..my theory is..in order to cut down on costs, of course less resources being used for developing games cases and the "metal" being utilized, i think the NEXT GEN game cases design and size will mimic this new steelbook design for the new "G4" sized release..the one i am referring to comes with a pin and a steelbook sized like a CD case https://www.ebgames.com.au/product/xbox-one/240164-gears-5

I agree it’s not a G3, neither was the Pokémon Steelbook. Here’s a pic for reference:

I would agree that the next gen cases will probably be the smallest they can fit a game in. Microsoft is looking to eliminate all physical releases anyways so the smallest physical case they can release, the better (much cheaper to manufacture and can ship/store many more for less cost)

Physical media will still be around for the foreseeable future.

Any company that sells physical media is looking to that distribution model due to the amount of savings it would yield. Will it happen anytime soon? Probably not, but you can be guaranteed they're looking at that for the end goal.

Give it another 5-10 years and they'll get the average user base in the year ranges they want... the ones who dont want anything physical and want everything digitial or in the palm of thier hand.

Not to steer off topic, but SONY said for the first time this year they've sold MORE digital copies of games then physical copies of the same PS4 title..once 5G sets in..i really really believe PLAYSTATION 5 will be the LAST generation for optical disc drive games/physical media.

Those Mini Steelbooks are too small to hold discs. Imma be picking up the MHW Iceborne one tomorrow which just comes with a digital code for DLC. I'm very curious how appealing its gonna be opening up.

I play very few games and I very rarely play a game more than once, i dont have time for that, so i basically open and close it twice.
And not that many games come inside the steelbook, so we are talking like really low numbers here.
Of the 235 +/- steelbooks i have, i would say less than 5% have games inside them and out of thous 5% that have games inside, almost all of them are sealed.
