Custom Detroit Become Human Steelbook

Not sure if this belongs here and I guess hardcore fans may not appreciate custom steelbooks but just wanted to share my experience of one that turned out amazing!

I was bummed there was no official steelbook for Detroit Become Human so I went for the custom option. I chose the front and back design myself and glad it looks beautiful!

I only buy custom made steelbooks when there is there is no official release for that game.

This guy has some awesome designs, however they are not printed as a normal steelbook, they are painted with vynil.
He also has a bunch for movies

I've seen these on Ebay, as you said his designs are really good, just the final quality doesn't seem that great. Guess they're worth the cost though. Mine cost me 42pounds / steelbook :surrender:

Looks amazing. It always feels like custom steels have the best looking artwork. Official steels often just play it safe and go with something typical.

Its the equivalent of fan fiction, and thats not illegal.

I mean, technically yeah, it's illegal. Scanovo is a private company and they've trademarked the steelbook brand. So selling a product in a steelbook's likeness without Scanovo's approval wouldn't be legal.

But these are basically second hand sales using altered steelbooks that have already been released by Scanovo and paid for. So it's not like Scanovo is being cheated out of money.

Also, it's not like people are using custom steels to imitate official steels. Like if someone was to create custom steels for rare steels like TLoU or Mirror's Edge which resembled the official thing, maybe I'd have a problem with fakes flooding the market. But customs use completely different artwork and are easy to tell apart.

Exactly.
They are not copying licensed material, they arent claiming them to be official, they arent making the steelbooks themselves (i mean the metal case itself), so they arent taking anything from no one.
Cant imagine it being "illegal" in the full sense of the word.

Well technically it still is "illegal" because you are paying someone money, while he/she is using Artworks/Screenshots/Pictures that are subject to copyright. (making extra changes to the artwork doesn't help. It's still based on a copyright protected piece)
Basically, as soon as money flows and official material is involved, you need a license to sell it.
It's the same with statues. Recreating a character from a Trademark without permission is illegal.

But to be fair, I don't really see this as problematic since the market of custom steelbooks is very thin. And Publishers don't seem to care about it either.

All of them are beauty’s!!! The Detroit become human is perfect!!! Limited run Games should pay you for the design of there steelbooks. In the past nearly every steelbook of them is ugly without love and style.
