....Aww no, I am guessing the tournament edition is not going to include this stuff huh? I don't think I am up to spending $250.00 on mortal kombat when I havent bought a fighting game in years.

Correct. Only the hardest of the hardcore MK fans would consider paying $250 to get all of these collectors items.
But eh, I'm just after the tournament edition stick, so the choice is easy for me. Ah, the nostalgia..

Hmmm, I also have the tournement edition preordered. Do we know what the production is going to be for the Kollectors edition? Do you think it would be one of those editions that is half price in six months?

I don't forsee either of these editions increasing in value.
The tournament edition will likely decrease in value to a point. The stick itself will have value and the TE wont drop below that. Look at the Tekken 5 and 6 LEs that were bundled with sticks... they're valued at about what the stick is worth.
The Kollector's Edition will likely be worthless in a few months. Just look at the Xbox 1/PS2 Mortal Kombat KEs... they can still be bought new in some places for around $20. Similarly the MK vs DC CE and SFIV CEs are all significantly devalued.
Fighting games just don't hold their value....
I'm buying both, but I'm also a huge MK fan (I even have a UMK3 Arcade machine in my game room).
----------
A general rule for determining if a CE will hold it's values or increase in value
1. is it an RPG?
2. is it a NEW franchise (ie: not a sequel and not based on a movie or existing property) with little to no marketing?
3. was production limited?
4. Have past CEs from the franchise increased in value?
If you answered "YES" to one of these questions it will likely hold it's value at or around RRP
If you answered yes to two or more of these questions it will likely increase in value over time.

Fighting games just don't hold their value....
Hmm.. Now I'm reconsidering buying the MvC3 steelbook for full price on day one.
It's good information concerning the MK Kollector's Edition, though. I will look forward to getting a copy at a heavily reduced price just months after release.

Those are some good tips.
I noticed Tales of Vesperia LE doesn't go cheap.
You are also making me reconsider paying the upfront $150 for the tournament edition. I am not a huge fan of fighting games which doesn't help the case. Something that caught my eye was that it has a production limit of 20,000 units in NA.
That doesn't seem like a lot to me, but as you said and I have seen the Tekken CE sitting on store shelves decreasing in value. Maybe I will switch to just preordering the Kollectors Edition, save myself $50 bucks and take the chance the tournament edition will drop in price. I hate wishing for a special edition to drop in price, but there are just too many games to buy new for every one.

obviously any CE purchase is a gamble if you're looking for something that will appreciate.
If this new MK game sells like gang-busters and suddenly everyone and their brother are playing fighting games again then I'm sure the TE and KE will appreciate in value. Honestly though I don't see that happening.
limiting the TE to 20K units will do a lot for it's value, but at the same time you can still pre-order it so clearly the demand isn't there... at least not yet.
For comparison
the Scarborough Fair Gun replica in Austrailia was limited to 5000 units across all platforms
the Survival Edition of Fallout 3 was limited to 10000 units across all platforms
and the Slimer Edition of Ghostbusters was limited to 6500 units across all platforms.
The Gun Replica was technically $0 to start (as it was a pre-order bonus) and now fetches $150
the Survival edition was $120 to start and is now about $200
and the slimer edition was about $120 to start and now about $100
20K is an interesting area where, it's certainly limited (most CEs are made in the hundreds of thousands) but it's not clear if it will be limited ENOUGH to really hold it's value.

Found this! Says Future Shop Exclusive and appears to be just a steelbook, and comes with the reptile skin.

Also, the TE appears to be only $130 on Futureshop.ca, so I cancelled my $175 (Including $25 shipping) from Gamestop.com

A steel book now too? What the hell, I can see why you wouldn't include the Kollectors edition in the Tournament Edition, but now I am going to miss out on the steel book if I don't buy both the kollectors and the steel book editions. Ugh they are killing me.

Agree, it a strange predicament the publisher has put us in. Over saturating the market with 3-4 different edition is only going to make demand less.
I agree with Gemini, 20K is the max they should manufacture, even then fighting games don't tend to hold their value. The exception being the Marvel vs Capcom series or very limited Collector's edition such as the Street fighter 2 Turbo limited Edition on Snes.

Thanks for the info :) As the kollector's edition is the only one I'm passing on, its nice to know it will be cheap soon after. The PS2 Armageddon steelbooks fetch usually at least over $80, and the MK vs. DC KE (PS3) seems to be at $150 - $200 on ebay and amazon, which is pretty good imo.

Good point gurpswoo1. Looks like I will cancel my order for the Kollectors edition and pick it up later when its cheap.
Does Future Shop not ship to the US? I know it is a Canadian store, but I would think they would allow purchases from the US on their website. When I try creating an account it won't let me move forward until I put a canadian zip code in.

Ouch - $130. almost double the original price.
Depending on where you are, it would be cheaper to go across the border. :rotf:

I live literally 10 minutes from the border, but I am a bit spoiled by having such things shipped to me....Do you guys think it will be rare enough for a trip into Canada? Its a half hour drive to the nearest future shop.....
Just to give you a visual, to the left of the river is canada, and the right of the river is buffalo (US), haha.
Nevermind, google maps does not carry the exact location you were looking at in the link. If you are curious just type on buffalo ny to toronto canada.

I picked up my Tournament Edition today. The GameStop manager informed me that my Pre-Order was the only copy of that edition the store received... this is good for collectors.
I pre-ordered the Kollector's Edition through Amazon, though it hasn't shipped yet.
I appologize for not taking any pictures but my light tent is too small for these CEs that are coming out now, I need to build a bigger one.

LOL - I know what you mean, I really am struggling to store these large box editions.
Killzone 3 Helghast , Crysis 2 Nano edition are just two of the bigger ones I got recently.
Look forward to the pictures.

Agreed. Normally I would cringe at the prospect of dropping $150 on a CE, but this TE is totally worth it.
It's very well built and faithful to the original arcade cabinets, and.. just.. the rush nostalgia it brings. I love it. :D

my only complaint is the box... it's not very sturdy and the "slip-cover" is a hair too wide for the box which makes it prone to damage along the edge.
however the rarity and the quality of the controller make it one of the best CEs this year.

I really like how the bottom of the fight stick is padded. It makes it a lot more comfortable if you were to have it in your lap.

Recently picked up the 360 CE (brand new/unopened) for $50. I thought it was a decent deal.
Edit - Just thought I'd let anyone who's looking to pick a copy up for a decent price - Future Shop still seems to have a few in stock on both PS3 and 360 for $49.99 + free shipping.

STORY TIME:
So I bought a 2nd Tournament Stick from a member here a few months back because I wanted to hack around with it... I eventually decided that despite the exposed electronics it wasn't a very good platform for hacking (if you're into controller hacking: it's not common-ground style :( )
So it sat and collected dust for a while.
I decided a couple of weeks ago to call up a bunch of friends and plan a Mortal Kombat Tournament (to be held this Saturday)... I figured I had 2 Tournament Sticks so it'd be good fun.
Monday night I was going to teach my wife some basic MK techniques and to my surprised the Fight stick that came in my original TE (the one that had never been used) was completely DOA :( (led flashed on then back off and the controller is completely dead, as if it were unplugged)
PDP was awesome on the phone but basically told me they probably wont have the parts to fix it and they don't have any in stock to send a replacement... they offered a Klassic style stick in return but IMO they're quite ugly, and they don't even open up for storage either...
I ended up ordering another TE from Gamestop.com it was $90 with overnight shipping and I'm sending the broken one back to PDP, worst case they can't fix it and are going to give me a full refund.
gurpswoo1

That's sounds bad, of all the things to not work.
It's great that PDP wanted to help out, few companies would.
Mortal Kombat Tournament sounds great.
