Europe for the first time ever is getting a limited edition pokemon DS console.

The up and coming release of Pokemon Black and White will launch with both limited White and Black DSIs with Reshiram and Zekrom artwork.

From Nintendo life:

When Pokémon Black and White hit Europe on March 4th, choosing which coloured game to go for won't be the only difficult decision on the shelves, as the games will also launch alongside two limited edition DSi consoles.

Available in black or white, the bundles come with a copy of the appropriately-coloured game, with the console bearing a picture of Reshiram and Zekrom. They're not the first limited edition Pokémon DS consoles, but they are the first to reach Europe, and so should spark the interest of collectors and late adopters.

That's not the only Pokémon-related happenings, though. Whereas North America could receive a trio of Shiny Legendary Pokémon at Gamestop, Europeans don't even need to leave their houses, as the same monsters will be available to download through Nintendo WiFi Connection.

Owners of Diamond, Pearl, Gold, Silver or Platinum can grab Entei, Raikou and Suicune from February 7th, which will in turn unlock Zorua and Zoroark in Pokémon Black and White.

This is a huge surprise to many people who though that the now sold out red 25th anniversary DSI was the last limited edition DS to hit Europe. Mainly because of the impending release of the 3DS.

So this is likely to be the last limited edition DS console, while also be first pokemon feature console. I hope anyway.

Oops, sorry about. I fixed it now.

The main difference apart from the main colour of course is the gold and silver writing.

I see now, nice. Both versions are elegant.

I don't quite understand Nintendo's thinking on this release . It's being released the same month as the 3DS. Are they banking on the popularity of Pokemon to shift these units or are they actually going to be super limited in supply.

Also what will be the price of these units?

Yep, that's pretty much it. And I'm pretty sure that the 3DS will be in short supply for the first few months since it's new tech, so why not milk Pokemon's popularity if you're Nintendo?

Might have to get me these in that case. I missed out on the Sapphire and Ruby GBA SP's, but definitely going to get these ones for the collection!

Hopefully by the time Pokémon Black & White come out, the DSi's will have dropped in price. I don't expect to have to pay more than £130 for each of these, and I do expect the game to come bundled inside as well for that price!

I'll believe it when I see it, as the article cites no reference sources, and i've not yet seen any official Nintendo press release about the release of these consoles in Europe. It would also be nice to know which countries in Europe are due these consoles, if it turns out to be legit, as the UK sometimes gets left out of these sorts of things which are due for the mainland

It's also not the first Pokémon DS console officially available from Europe, as the European Club Nintendo site were recently offering a Pokémon console, although technicaly they did state that it was a Japanese console with a European power supply, so that doesn't count ;)

The article did mention that the game would be included.

There is now also a picture of the box art with the PEGI logo.

I'm glad that was clarified. Nintendo is usually good about bundling its games with hardware.

OK a few updates for this limited edition console bundle.

Firstly for those that hoped the console was going to be released in the UK, fear no more.

GAME have secured exclusive rights to this console bundle in the UK.

We know that Pokémon has a loyal fanbase,” says Charlotte Knight, head of category management from GAME, ” and we are delighted to be offering them this exclusive opportunity to get their hands on a limited edition Pokémon-branded Nintendo DSi console”.

Also for a limited time frame (no specifics dates given), certain retailers, which I presume are GAME stores will be giving out an in game item called a Liberty Pass, It basically gives the player the ability to find the Pokemon Victini.

Selected UK retailers will be wirelessly distributing an item known as the Liberty Pass for a limited period after release. This pass will enable players to disover Victini, the mythical Pokémon found only in the Unova region.

Full details can be found at the source below

GAME exclusive.

Does that mean high mark-up on the price?

Yes, expect it to be 10 to 20% higher. Although i can't imagine it will stay in stock long.

Ok another update on this for the UK,

Only the Black version is exclusive to GAME, the white version can be purchased from other retailers which will have it at a lower price.

Listing is up on GAME (http://www.game.co.uk/Consoles/_/N-1z13fvg/?s=nintendo+dsi+with+pokemon&hideflag=1) now aswell for both the exlcusive black and white version at £159.99. ouch.

Shopto.net (http://www.shopto.net/DS/HARDWARE/DSI12-Nintendo%20Dsi%20White%20with%20Pokemon%20White%20 Limited%20Edition%20Hardware%20Bundle.html) have the white version for £149.99

£160 for a console which will be obsolete within the same month?

I will also try and get GAME to lower the price and price-match ShopTo on the non-exclusive console

I recently Tweeted:

@Gamedigital (http://twitter.com/Gamedigital) - @Shoptonet (http://twitter.com/Shoptonet) has the Pokémon White DSi console for more than £10 cheaper http://ow.ly/3Q7yD - Any chance of a price match? ;)

I suggest the rest of you also do something similar, and hopefully they'll lower the price to match ShopTo.net - Or else i'm simply pre-ordering from ShopTo instead...

Since the black Pokemon DSi is a GAME exclusive, I doubt they'll price-match, but I hope they do!

First time I used twitter, don't understand it at all.

Replied to one of the messages but it doesn't show up.

I didn't understand it at first, but now i've gotten the hang of it.

Simply find someone you wish to see your message and include an "@" symbol before their name. Eg, "@Gamedigital" for GAME. This will automatically appear in their Twitter feed because you mentioned them in your Tweet. It's quite simple really.

If you visit their page, and click "Follow", you'll see any replies the make to your post in your own Twitter feed
