Hi All,
This is an introduction post rather than a show-off.
I thought it was time to join the forum community after stalking it for the past few months.
I was a child of the video arcades during the late 1970’s and a teenage gamer when the Home Computer market took off in the UK during the early 1980’s. My love of fantasy and Sci-Fi books pushed me towards text adventure games back then, and I kind of followed the path through Point and Click adventure games to the huge RPG’s we now have like Skyrim, that incidentally I am currently waiting to be delivered at some point today. So although I love other games, action adventure and RPG’s are my favourite genre.
At the age of 40 I went through a bit of a bad patch with gaming, perhaps you could even call it a bit of a mid life crisis. I sold nearly everything I had; it was mostly retro era systems and games. For the next couple of years after this I felt a little empty inside trying to find something to fill the void before finally I realised that video games had not just been a hobby to me, they were part of my life style. So at 43 years old – here I am back enjoying something that means as much to me as Football, Cricket, or Golf does to others my age.
I haven’t got a huge collection due to this year being a gaming rebirth for me, but am slowly picking items up, and I have a great time here feeding of other people’s enthusiasm, passion, and gaming collection pictures. You have all turned me into an addict of CE’s.
Game on! ... Guys,

Welcome!
So true that for many of us, video games are part of who we are. :)
I second what Vhal said, I can't wait to see photos! I'm also a huge fan of RPGs (though more into jRPGs), can't wait to see what you have!
Will you be buying back some retro games? Those are always fantastic. ♥

Wow nice room and collection.
Did you get Assassin creed codex from ubishop?
VGM-UK
12-02-2011, 11:25 PM
Nope, I lucked out when they had their promotion. I really wanted one – so went through eBay. Not sure if I am going to open it though as I believe you can get a cheap GOTY Brotherhood. At this time I haven’t played any Assassins Creed games and I want to start from the first – so plenty of time to decide.

Hey welcome to the site and back to video games after your short break.
I so know what u mean about games being part of ur life and couldn't be without them myself even if the mrs doesn't understand.
I expected you not to have alot due to your wording of ur intro but I was wrong u have some awesome CE's.
You should make time to play all the assassins creed games. Free 1st one is abit repetitive but stick with it as they keep getting better and better.

Just added to the room this weekend a display case from IKEA UK at a great price of £40 plus installed a multi coloured lighting kit for £30. I just need to get some clear coloured cable ties to tidy the cables a bit.

@ Venner
Hi, I picked up a platinum version of first Assassins Creed this weekend for the PS3, whilst fighting off the Xmas shoppers. I haven’t cracked it open yet though due to being sucked into Uncharted 3, but I hope to take a look before the Star Wars: Old Republic MMO goes live. :starwars:
As for my intro title, I’m afraid it was sponsored by Stella Artois Cidre. It kinda made sense to me at the time.
@ Scottcross
Thanks Scott. I had been searching for sometime for a cabinet that had shop or museum display looks about it rather than glass in a chunky wooden frame, and then I noticed a few others in the forums had these. The single box it came flat packed in felt every bit the 42kg they state on the IKEA site. There is some serious glass in these bad-boys.

The lighting looks good but i thought these cabinets from ikea already came with lighting installed
VGM-UK

It comes with a hole in the wooden top section of the cabinet for a optional and extra purchase of a single light. If you choose not to add lighting then there is a cover cap that comes with it.
I picked the LED kit for stronger lighting to each shelf, and the controller that simple changes the coloured output. It does a rather nice Sith Red.

I was planning on getting LED's for a display of my collection myself, You've persuaded me now lol, I think it will look awesome in sith red as well:starwars:

It's been a busy month with work but I did manage to complete Dead Space (awesome survival horror, must get the sequel) and Uncharted 3.
I have a scary amount of things on pre-order thanks to this site.

Hey VGM! Just checking out your thread now. VERY impressive recent additions my friend, very impressive indeed! Several items I want badly: AC:R Animus and the Sonic Collector edition.
You said you just finished Dead Space...
Just so you aware for future reference, I am a HUGE, enormous, gigantic, insane Dead Space fan! I have a near complete collection of ALL DS games, collectibles, editions, merchandise, comics, books, movies and art. I've collected everything official and am now considering "fan" made items and press kits of higher value and rarity, (like sculptures of wood or resin made by independent artists...)

@ RyuShinEX
The game guides pictured in my last post were all purchased over and during the holiday sales period from high street video game stores. Although the internet is a great resource for bargains I still find that regular visits to my local Game and Gamestation can be worthwhile, sometimes. In all instances these were the last copies they had on display.
@ Venner & foreverflash
I’ve made it my mission to hunt down a copy of Deadspace 2 next weekend.
Having spent around 3 years out of the video gaming loop and a few years prior to that playing MMORPG’s and retro stuff - it was a great experience. I would say on the same level as when I first played Resident Evil and Silent Hill back in the PS1 days.
It’s great to have a game franchise you love so much that you focus your collecting to it; I am currently without either focus or a goal to my collecting habit, I think I have developed magpie syndrome.

Thought it about time to do an update before I get too lazy…
Final Fantasy 13-2 Crystal Meth Edition.
Well… you've got to be out of your head to understand the story, or perhaps I’m just getting too old for JP RPG type games. The pre-order Steelbook is very nice.

Metal Gear Solid HD LE.
The box is not in bad condition considering Zavvi sent it to me packaged in nothing but a plastic bag; it only suffered a small thumb size dent to the top that can be seen in the pic.

Forbidden Planet UK finally sent my Mass Effect Normandy model ships. I can see why it took them so long to get stock when you have to consider that each model has been hand-painted (by rescued one-eyed chimpanzees). Paint job is not so bad that it ruins the models, but could have been better – in my mind.

Alan Wake CE for the PC.
Love it! Especially after picking up an Xbox 360 type controller instead of using keyboard and mouse. Story, graphics, music, all hit the mark for me personally, although perhaps the combat can be a tad repetitive at times. Without giving away spoilers there will be a few memories like the Henderson Farm that will linger on well after I’ve finished with the game.
http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6095/6868110150_8b8f0a876d_z.jpg
Other Stuff included Silent Hill NTSC version for the PSone. Pre-owned good condition Uncharted 2 steelbook. Darkness 2 LE with Lenticular cover sleeve. Soul Calibur V CE.
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7260/7014221239_a73866009c_z.jpg
And of course Mass Effect 3 CE for the PC which proved to be such a pain in the arse to get working that I gave up after phoning the EA helpdesk 5 times and bought the standard edition on the Xbox 360 to play instead.
I'm looking forward to Diablo III now, cheers everyone

Welcome to the site! I think I'm at that point in my life where the transitions are heavily affecting my video game passion, thereby making it very hard to pursue that avenue.
I am glad that you were able to get back into gaming and collecting.
