Chell’s weapon of choice, accurately named Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device, should start to appear in your favorite toy stores around April. We’re only making 5000 replicas, so this is a very limited run. You can expect them to sell out very quickly.
Here are some more details:
Dimensions: 30″ in length
Support: the replica rests fine on flat surfaces and does not ship with a base or stand.
Features: both orange and blue LED lights and unique sounds that correspond to each color.
Sounds: The lovely “portal-creating” sound we’ve become used to
A 3 way switch allows you to select blue, orange or off and when you pull the trigger you activate the ”firing” and sound. It requires 3 “C” batteries, not included.

Either that or they have now realised that they oversubscribed.

First and foremost this item is not cancelled, it is very much on schedule, looking great and it will ship on time.

Last week it came to our attention that many retailers were pre-selling the ASHPD without knowing the final pricing, availability, and if they would even have inventory on this item. In some instances certain retailers that are not current NECA customers were pre-selling the ASPHD on eBay. We decided to remove our initial listing and story on our official website so that we could take the time to negotiate with a select group of reputable retailers that we will work with to pre-sell and retail this item at a fair price and in an organized fashion so that most importantly you, the customer, has the best possible chance to obtain this highly desirable collectible.

The items price will be raised to a standard $139.99 thru these dealers and there will be no discounts we were told. Also NECA did say that there is a limit of 1 per customer for anyone who ordered/wanted two from these retailers. We are not affiliated with any of these companies but do know from experience that ThinkGeek is the most reliable compared to the rest of the list. We know also that brick and mortar stores will be getting a few, as this is one thing NECA wanted to make sure of. We are cancelling all the pre-orders and refunding them completely, all orders will be refunded by the end of today. I checked Rocking Robot and Corner Store Comics. Both have the guns available, shipping to Australia is around $100. Still expensive, brings the gun up to $240 or thereabouts. Not sure if it's still worth it or not. :shrug:

RR will post internationally for $99, the comic store is $103 but it's express international (probably the best to use).

I feel the same, don't know what to do. Even though Neca put their price up $20, postage from these other stores is roughly $40 more so $60 total than Anime-Island :(

I doubt you will find anymore here from any Gametraders, I suspect we got bugger all units, maybe 2-3 per store if we're lucky.

I can't say Neca can be blamed for these cancellations. Those retailers were probably not authorized to start making preorders anyway?? Neca needed to make allocatiassumptions they were permitted to take allocations/deals, but some companies made the assumption they were getting it. As far as I was told, only Gametraders were permitted to take orders in Oz and limited to 300 units for the country.

Slightly disappointed with Play I have to say!

Packaging was alright - a bit scuffed and dented, but I'm never one for packaging anyway.

But the gun itself has a small dark scuff mark on the white plastic at the back, and a small scratch on the see through element of the barrel.

It's not bad but it's certainly not pristine - but of course, Play don't keep extras for potential returns so it's the age old collectors dilemma - keep it non-pristine or not have it at all!? :)

I opted to keep it and Play gave me a £20 discount - thought that was a little on the low side, but oh well, what can you do!

Use parcel2go and send via fedex. I got a quote for a GoW lancer to Oz and was only about £90. It's still quite expensive, but better than £200... :S

Used them more than 50 times and are excellent service, using the dimenssions of mine, it should cost you around £40-50 depending on the size of box you use.

Bear in mind though they use both DHL and UPS - DHL may not carry it as they are very strict against anything resembling a weapon of any kind - i shipped GOW lancer with them and they refused saying it was 'dangerous goods' :rotf:

but then again UPS will charge a brokerage fee to those in canada so contact them and ask if ok with this

It's not so much being made out of plastic that bothers me - I think both of my Lancers are great things, got them rather crudely mounted on the wall with some chain from B&Q - it's the quality of plastic that is my issue.

For £100 I can't help but think that it feels, well, more like a Nerf gun does than either of my Lancers do because it's that smooth and slippery, almost cheap plastic. Also with this the one bit I was disappointed about was that the prongs on the front are plastic rather than metal, don't know why I just expected metal as it would look better and be more durable for such a delicate piece.


I'm still happy I got it but I'm not so pleased about the quality for, as I've mentioned a few times, such a high price.


Originally I ordered the P-Body one too since I thought it would be nice to get a whole set of them as I'm sure the Atlas one is inevitably going to be announced later but after getting this one I'll save the extra £200 for stuff coming soon like the Borderlands 2 Ultimate Loot edition.

Grabbed some batteries for it today and the sounds are definitely much better than the original youtube video was showing! lol Very loud and very crisp. Scared the shit out of me because I wasn't expecting it to be quite so loud! XD

You're at the mercy of eBay on the original replica. It's not available anywhere else for cheaper as far as I know.
