I haven't seen any pictures, from the pc gamers among us, of their gaming platform of choice.

therefore i think its about time we had a place for some comparing and a little healthy bragging.

lhurgoyf what do you do that requires 24GB of Ram?

Large clusters of virtual machines for my work. I have VMs for every enterprise DB on the market that I used to use for testing my applications along with the million versions of the product configured for various clusters.

Alas, 24GB is not enough for what I currently work on, so it is all going to waste now.

If you are doing virtualization I can see why you need that level of ram,

LOL even 24Gb is not enough. maybe set some of the ram as data for windows to use when loaded.

Would need about 25 of my desktops to run what I work on now :P

Never been into building gaming rigs, but I like my PC's to be able to play games.

Got a business account with DELL from my time with my dad's company (CAD design of heating/water services/air conditioning etc)

yeah I know I could get better specs for cheaper but I love the warranty I get and the peace of mind......any probs it's replaced right away:)

Got a couple of XPS PC's

Lappy:

i5 2410
4 gig ram
GT555M
500 GB HDD

Desktop:

i7 3370
12 gig ram

recently upgraded the 'rig' to even higher performance levels - as it is at the moment:

i5 OC'd to 3.5Ghz (work in progress) also water-cooled via Antec Kuler 680
8Gb RAM
256Gb Samsung 830 Series SSD
500Gb Regular HD
Palit Nvidia 680 4Gb (B.E.A.S.T)
Dell 24" Monitor
+ other bits that go to make a PC

Recently been enjoying the delights of The Witcher 2 on Ultra with Ubersampling turned on - my god was i in for a treat!

Nice setup, Is that the enhanced edition or original version for witcher 2.

I have been surprised by the price drops for SSD recently, Have been thinking of upgrading the PS3 with a SSD, wonder if it will fit or even work.

In terms of modding one HDD is the same as another so SSD or otherwise will work the same way. (so long as you format it properly)

If only prices for SATA drives would come back down, surely the Thailand floods are over and they've sorted themselves out by now. Understandably, they lost a lot of stock from the floods. :/

Good to see SSD are coming down a lot, still after a 240GB/256GB but those aren't low enough unlike the 120GB/128GB ones. I do want it to be SATA III and around the 500mb/s for read and write though, not the slower ones.

I have used it for a long time now, 5yrs or so for the first one and like 3 for the second one I think. They just released the newest model but not completely there's a few more still to come that are even better than them. They are pretty reliable, especially the ones after my first one...they are perfect haha.

http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/qosmio/X870/available-models

The next models should be here within a few months, if not weeks. The only thing I know about them is that the better models will come with 32GB of RAM :0
Also, note that if you buy one, dont go through Toshiba...there is usually a cheaper place to get them. I got my first model $400 cheaper than Toshiba site stated and $300 cheaper for the 2nd one.

Ehh I think the ones I have now are like 3-4hrs but that's running it without full power options. I think the last model may be up to 6hrs. The newest ones is apparently like 2hrs but that's good enough for me because Im always on the go but Im always near a power source.

Gaming on pretty much any laptop on battery alone will burn it very quickly. Does that have switchable graphics or does it always run on the dedicated GPU?

I thought my XPS17 was big but damn a 18.4 inch display!?!? That thing must be HUUUGE!

It saves a lot of battery power if it switches to the integrated graphics when not gaming.

Mine uses Optimus to switch from the GT555M to the intel HD 3000 graphics when not gaming.....Makes it a hell of a lot cooler and quieter too :p

Just finished putting my new rig together!

Specs:

Intel Core i7 3770K, Ivy Bridge overclocked to 4.3ghz.
16gig Corsair Vengeance Arctic White ram
SLI 2GB EVGA GTX 680,
850W Corsair Pro Gold AX850
2x 240GB Corsair Force Series 3
2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA
3TB Western Digital Caviar Green
LG BH10LS38 Blu-ray Writer

The whole thing is watercooled and has a black/white contrast theme - the case, RAM and watercooling pipes are white, but everything else internally is black where possible. I like the contrast!

I based it on the Scan cyclone system.

Also picked up a new Deathadder BE and Qck Heavy to go with it!

Hi guys,

Here's my setup. I just checked my purchase order history to help with listing the items as it was nearly 3 years ago when I built it. As you can see from the photos, I used to play a lot of online poker and with my profits I decided to do this project.

Before having that PC, I was just sitting on the floor with a cushion grinding online poker with the laptop on the coffee table. :rotf:

Case: Lian Li PC-V1000Z
CPU: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz Socket 1366 D0 stepping 8MB Cache
RAM: Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Memory CL9(9-9-9-24)

Monitors: 2 x 24" Dell U2410 UltraSharp
Graphics Card: ATI Sapphire HD 5770 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI

Motherboard: Asus P6T iX58 Socket 1366 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
PSU: Coolermaster RealPower 520W Modular PSU - SLI Ready

Boot Drive: Crucial 256GB SSD (to replace WD 300GB Velociraptor 10000rpm 16MB Cache)
Storage: 5 x various 2TB SATA III HDDs (WD and Samsung)

Mouse: Logitech G9 Laser Mouse - Wired With Switchable 200-3200DPI Precision - USB
Keyboard: Logitech G15 Keyboard LCD GamePanel USB - UK Layout

Misc: 2 x Ergonomic Chairs (can't remember the make/model but cost £500 ex VAT each)
I also had to source a suitable 2-piece desk for everything

Other comments:

My wife's PC is the one on the right with the Samsung 24" monitor and Antec 900 case.

A few months ago when I helped build my friend's PC, who has 3 x 30" Dell Monitors with his rig, I was tempted to get a couple of those monitors too but decided it wasn't justified as I don't play much poker now.

Here's a link to a review for my case - the second picture shows where the 6 hard drives are at the bottom. It is designed so they can be pulled out and swapped which I really like.

My PC was one of the highest specs at the time, I had the option to overclock it to 4.0GHz but decided it wasn't necessary at the time. If I decide to play games that are demanding then I would do so, as well as get a couple of new graphics cards to SLI but I probably should just get a new motherboard, CPU and RAM. :)

As for poker, I stopped for around 1.5 years or so, then started again last September for a few months making a small profit of around $1500 but gotten lazy. :/

I started playing since 2006 winning more money year on year. 2009 was my best year winning around $40,000 so I used some of that money to pay for my wedding, honeymoon to the Maldives and the PC project that you see above. :)

The game has gotten more difficult now and I haven't taken the time to keep up as I have a full time job. I do have friends who consistently win big 6 figures for several years in a row now. Most of them are in their early 20s, pretty sick!

Seeing as you're from the UK, I would strongly recommend PokerStars as the money is segregated so if something happens then your money is safe, unlike Full Tilt Poker which is very shady. :(

I've never done water cooling before, partly because I'm a little worried about it but basically because I don't overclock hard, but it does look really cool!

When I first started water cooling there was only a few, rather questionable, kits available - I'm still amazed that my first water cooled PC (which had a huge external reservoir) didn't explode.

But these days they tend to be really user friendly to set up. The main reason I started was because WC was so much quieter than fan cooled systems but, as time goes on, this is becoming less true as fans get quieter and WC systems get louder to cope with increased heat!

The way I see it, beyond a certain point the whole enthusiast PC gaming market is very much a "money to burn" sort of arena - noone should really buy a 30k or even 3k system unless they don't need to worry about the cash for exactly that reason - in 4ish years the latest, most badass hardware will still be starting to feel the strain!

It's just the sense that your whole system could beat the 3Dmark etc. or atleast get on the rankings for having the best console, OC and everything LOL
