Hi all,

My name is Daniel and I have a small problem with video game steelbooks. :D

Anyways, I've only recently started seriously collecting video game steelbooks as of summer 2011. My preference is for G2 steelbooks but I fell off the bandwagon a little and started collecting G1 as well. At first it was just PS3 and Xbox 360 G1's but I've got about a dozen PC and PS2 ones as well. My total steelbook collection is somewhere around 150 - 160 steels or so

One of the aspects of steelbook hunting that I like so much is the principle of region exclusivity. I like having something that was only released in some country on the other side of the world. The other main thing I find so addicting about steelbooks is how pretty they can be compared to other forms of special VG editions. For example, the newly released Futureshop exclusive Borderlands 2 steelbook is among my favorites. I feel it really captures the essence of the game.

A little more about me and VG's:

First VG that really hooked me was Ocarina of time. It had such depth to it and the open world was awesome. After that, it was GTA III which pretty much solidified the fact that I would be hooked on VG's for a long, long time. I also played more Pokemon as a kid than could possibly be healthy. To round it out, my older brother turned me on to Baldur's Gate when I was younger and if you've never played it, I highly recommend it as it still plays well today.

My Username:

Since I mentioned Baldur's Gate, I feel I should explain my user name a little as it originated as my characters name in Baldur's Gate. Lord SwiftDeath to be precise, incredibly corny I know but still satisfying to hear as you hack your way across the sword coast. The ironic thing was I had no idea the story behind the game when I created that name but it ended up fitting pretty well I think. It started as just a random name but now I feel it has two meanings. Originally, it just meant that the player was the bringer of death as was the character in BG. I mean you literally kill like 99% of all beings that you run into whether you're good/neutral/bad (and could kill most of the other 1% if you were so inclined). Now I feel it still means that but it also represents the fact that VG's can be very unforgiving. Just as you can swiftly bring death to those arrayed against you so can death be brought swiftly to your feet (In VG's of course...). Basically it was a small realization that came to me when I played BG, in the course of any battle/fight a single mistake could end up killing your entire party and this sentiment should be true in any well balanced VG, although recent VG's do seem to be far more forgiving.

Now that I've rambled on incoherently about myself for a while I just want to say that this website is awesome, especially in how worldwide it is. There are a lot of US VG collectors so it is always nice to see and talk to others around the globe.

i like your batman steelbook collection and the prince of persia one the best...the metalpaks can suck it..:D..hahahaha..i'm still upset that the NTSC mass effect 3 collectors edition had a metalpak..while PAL got steelbook.

I am still after a ME 3 CE steelbook for xbox

I don't really want to pay 30 pounds for that steel especially when I already have all the other parts of the CE

Opening that CE and seeing it was a metal pak made me quite irate......

Or in laymens terms I was pissed

Great collection you have and a... lot of steelbooks. Conrats man! :D

I myself have around 50 bd movie steels, but not so many video games related.

A little jealous for the latest AC updates, I don't have this AC Litho (got my guide from amazon, couldn't from best buy) or the mini AC Artbook!

Yep I love the AC litho....although it is numbered 14882 so not exactly that limited

The AC mini art book was a pre-order bonus I believe, so I should have one somewhere as my Assassin's Creed Limited Edition was bought on release day but bugger all if I could find it :scratch:

Also I love battlestar galactica as well :D

Took me the longest time to realize it wasn't actually part of the CE and was put in it by mistake by the person who sold it to me, first time I got a CE that was more complete than it should be :haha:

Man I do not want to admit how long I spent trying to get the box to close properly with the extra cozy in there. I was playing CE tetris

Yes I think the internal spring has weakened a little

I'm pretty sure they should pop out with a little more zest than my one does

Still I consider it a pretty good deal nonetheless

I got it for 11 USD shipped which wasn't bad as I didn't expect to get all the original packaging as well

I'll probably try to get a really nice copy of the Doctor jack in the box when I do get it and just have the harlequin one for decoration :D

Did you have to pay for shipping as it's quite a big jack in the box?

Also you might be right about leaving it open to rest the springs a bit although I think mines already been put out to pasture if you know what I mean

I've seen pics of blu ray steel collections that must top at least 500 seperate steels. :nosleep:

For some odd reason retailers don't release many US blu ray steels but there are a ton of collectors in the states. I've been on other forums for VG steels before and they tend to be subforums of movie steels because there are so many movie steel collectors worldwide.

I first started collecting movies and tv shows, and then i jumped to vg collecting! It is an expensive hobby, not the most expensive though. As I said though, I don't buy everything, just the things (movies/tvshows/game franchises)I like.

I've seen pics of blu ray steel collections that must top at least 500 seperate steels. :nosleep:

For some odd reason retailers don't release many US blu ray steels but there are a ton of collectors in the states. I've been on other forums for VG steels before and they tend to be subforums of movie steels because there are so many movie steel collectors worldwide.

Yes I know, I visit the big related forums (bluray.com hdninja etc) but not post too much there and I was a regular in another one for movie collector's.

Yep that's what so difficult for me. I can rarely pick and choose what I want as sometimes it's the artwork on the steel itself and not even the game that makes me want it.

Self-control when collecting is always helpful but it tends to be something I lack

For instance, one of my favorite steels is Homefront.

The steel was only released in a PC edition to my knowledge and if I didn't find it cheap, I may never have got it. Game wasn't that great either but steel is beautiful.

So now I usually just try to get all steels I can if I can find them for a reasonable price

It is and it isn't :shrug:

It was only available in the RE 5 CE that was sold in Hong Kong.

So while it is quite hard to find, I don't actually think it is worth all that much.

More than a common steelbook of course but I don't think it would even touch grail territory

The soul calibur 4 steel came with this strange paper holder labeled "Arcadia Version Extra Card". I have no idea what it is and whether or not it was supposed to come with the steel originally as it was a preorder bonus. I'm pretty sure it has a card in it.

Yes I quite like it but it's rather common really as there are still a ton of AC III guides sitting on shelves in Best Buys around the country.

It is generally numbered. Mine is 14882 so not that limited. I would estimate there are at least 30,000 of these lithos as there are about 1000 best buy stores and each store seems to have gotten about 30 guides.

If anything it would be more than 30000

The AC steel is quite beautiful. Ezio on the front, Altair on the back. I believe the inside art is of Ezio as well?

Really glad I was patient on getting this one as I got it for a good price :D

The Splinter cell steel is quite good-looking as well but the FS Halo 4 is gorgeous in person and has really good inside art as well

I believe you have a splinter cell steel/pre order pack on its way to you right now, don't you? :)

I saw that that edition was supposed to come with a steelbook. I take it it's the same AC steelbook as the one I just got in?

Strange because that AC steelbook I got was released for brotherhood and was supposed to cover AC I, AC II, & brotherhood which is why Altair is on the back of the steelbook. I don't think it was meant to just cover Ezio's saga. I guess they repurposed extras they had maybe???

Besides the cheapest I see that sell for is around 30 Euro used, new it's like 50 euro. I have no interest in the PC games that come with it so they're worthless to me. I got mine sealed for 24 euro shipped which I still consider to be a great deal regardless.

That's weird that it says not for sale on the back of the comic. I have that book too; in fact, I think I have the complete set. It was a regular mini-series comic based in the book. They sold it at comicbooks stores alongside all the other regular comics. I've never seen it with that not for sale bit though.

I'm missing that crazy rare Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Stickerbook from the netherlands and the Directors Cut PC Steelbook for AC 1 that was sold in the UK and a couple other countries I think?

I have serious doubts I'll ever have the ACB stickerbook in my collection although I never thought I'd have the ACII stickerbook so I guess anything is possible :shrug:

The AC 1 PC steelbook is more of an annoyance to me than anything. I've seen it for sale multiple times but I can never tell what condition it's in. Even after asking the sellers, I'm still not usually convinced it's as nice as they say because it's so old. I'll definitely get it eventually when I find the right one :)

had that with a few Spanish and French things i bought didnt show up on the main ebay and luckily they were whilling to ship to the Netherlands

I have a 4 inch figure inside a sealed ac 1 CE but its damaged in one corner and I have an open ac1ve but no figure
I don't have neither acb jumbo book or sticker book, yep there's 2 one from Asia and none from Netherlands
Have already given up hope on having either

Steelbooks are made by a company called Scanovo

All of the products and variations they make can be found here:

If it is a steelbook it will say inside it as all known steelbooks have the same logo inside

Stickerbooks are actually made by scanovo as well, they use the same steelbook cases but instead of painting on them they simply adhere stickers

Much cheaper to make but also looks much cheaper :shrug:

And for the most part I only collect steelbooks made by scanovo but do have some metalpaks and I'm sure one day I'll get some of the other AC metal tins

I will say that most of the AC launch kits are cooler than the AC press kits but the AC II crimson book press kit is super awesome :)

The Uncharted 2 Promo Launch Journal is cool but it's actually a lot cheaper looking in person than photos would suggest

It's like the only item I've ever had that actually looks better in photos than in real life :rotf:

Still cool though :)

I had a conversation with ingmar about the journal being not as good quality. Still would lor one to go next to my UDF PK. I think alot of it is just opinion. Some people may prefer the GOW3 PK's wooden bo but I prefer having the content of the LK. I imagine american grass is greener than English grass with the lack of sun.

there is one binding extra inserted at the front totaling 16 pages that are not different but additional,

and for close up pics best to use a magifying glass pressed up against the camera lense
it does etter then any macro function eer could and ads a slight fish eye effect

i personall use a side light or indicator from my jaguer as they are realy good at geting the macro shots

For comparison the AC III LE art book is around 2.5 lbs

The DS clamshell is actually too heavy for my scale :rotf:

so must weigh more than 5 lbs lol

It was well packed

They weren't individually bubble wrapped though just thrown in a box with little cardboard protectors to protect the corners

Still arrived in perfect condition so no complaints

I doubt anyone on here knows this about me but I'm a huge Fallout fan

Loved the original PC games as well as the bethesda reboot

Would love to get some of the other Fallout promo items but Fallout collectors are actually as crazy if not crazier than AC and Uncharted collectors at least in my experience

Love it, almost knocks ni no kuni off my #1 G2 steelbook of this year

Ummm funny thing about the price sticker, I do mean to peel it off but will probably end up using a little Goo-gone to make it come off cleanly

I would usually try it right away but I just successfully got it into a poly protective sleeve.....with the cardboard sleeve in there too

It was to say the least a challenge as it really wasn't meant to fit

I'll probably try it tomorrow and let you know

Don't think it would be a problem though

Yes I'm starting to understand why you might give up on them if this is how they arrive

Pictures don't adequetly show it honestly but it's annoying to say the least

Dishonored wear could probably be hidden by a frame but Fallout's damage (my favorite btw) is on the artwork itself :banghead:

And I don't even think it was from shipping as both lithos had damage but in different places

I can't fathom the Fallout litho receiving that damage from shipping considering it was shipped flat in cardboard :scratch:

I did try to get extra posters but I lack a certain finesse and probably came across as greedy.

I did inform the devs that they have crazy fans in Europe and Australia and should hold events like this there as well :D

They handed out a special cover insert that they signed but I also got them to sign the standard cover insert as well :twisted:

Not entirely sure it was worth the effort involved though but who needs sleep? :shrug:

It's the spanish one that we were talking about a while back

It's a standard G1 steel unlike the Italian one which is a jumbo G1

Only seen two listed thus far and first one sold almost within an hour 200+ USD :D

My guy that went to the NYC event tells me that only a handful of people attended there; and they only handed out one poster per person; and supposedly they destroyed the remaining posters. I'm guessing the NYC poster is, therefore, pretty rare. I haven't really been keeping close tabs on these posters though, so I really dont know how many NYC posters have come up for sale.

I'd estimate at least a dozen seperate signed NY posters have been posted on ebay (there were some double posts but I didn't count those)

And then probably 6 - 8 unsigned ones

Only seen 2 signed SF ones pop up but more will given time

anyone's guess as to which one is going to be truly rare :shrug:

My guess is SF but by the number of people that attended it really shouldn't be

Wish there was some cool story behind it but just got off ebay

I believe it was an internal ubisoft gift but 1 art cell was given away in a competition too

There's also alex ross's signature on it too :D

It's visible barely in the close up of the numbering

Not sure if its printed or if he actually signed each of the 200 by hand

To be honest I only noticed the signature when I looked at the photos I took

It's a little hard to see but in that way it detracts from the art less

It's different, hard to describe really as I don't take good pictures so you can't really see it

Honestly I like how shiny it is and the colors on it as it's a bit like someone hand painted a steelbook if that makes sense

If Ubisoft keeps releasing new cel arts for their subsequent ones, these might go up in value. It might be a new trend in collecting, like steelbooks.
