Yeah, they need to add a special name so you can distinguish it from the normal release. Companies usually use "Limited edition", "Special Edition", "Day one edition", custom names like "Army edition", "War edition", etc etc.
That's perfectly fine as long as they don't use "Collector's edition".
Personally, a Collector's edition needs something extra like a keychain, soundtrack, artbook, steelbook, statue, it doesn't matter if it's big or small as long as you can "touch" it. I think that qualifies as a collector's edition and if it only comes with DLC "Special" or "Limited" edition is fine.
