Mostly I get screen prints, giclees, and lithgraphs signed and it is pencil all the way if the medium allows it. Pencil doesn't fade or bleed and lasts forever. Most artists sign prints in pencil for this reason.

But like you mentioned not everything can be signed in pencil so I just make sure that I get a pigmented marker/pen that is fade resistant and I'll use it for signatures. No sharpies.

On a side note, I wish I had the time to go up to the Philadelphia Comic Con at the end of the month but work is kicking my ass at the moment. Most of the Firefly cast is going to be there damn it! Only 3 hours away.
