That's why I open my steels and remove slipcovers. You never know if the steel is damaged with the slipcover on.
You can feel for big dents through the slipcovers tho. It's good when buying them off the shelf. You should see me when I buy steelbooks from the shop. They take out a whole stack of them and let me inspect/feel til I choose the one I want.
