This is exactly my thinking! Yes MMO's are usually a long term investment but if you compare it to the hours within the first month you are playing, to something like the new South Park game, then I really don't see why people are so anti-subscription model. That game is ?40 to buy now and I would love someone to tell me that they've put more than say 20 hours into it (and I believe even that's pushing it).
I know that there are exceptions to this but any game that can keep people occupied for longer than a month is worth paying for. People can throw around examples like Guild Wars 2, Battlefield series or even DayZ but I don't think that those games are backed up by the fact that there is a dedicated software house building on just this one game and they need to be paid if you're going to keep getting quality updates.
If people aren't willing to pay the monthly fee then that's fine and the model is just not for you. That doesn't mean that this is destined to go F2P. I just don't understand the hate on it.
I'd also like to clarify that my statement about the other development studios is based on the fact that NCsoft, Dice and Bohemia are all great and large studios but they work on so many games at once, cutting the post-launch development to a minimum.
