Yeah I've seen the card outer before and really like that method, my Halo: The Art of Building Worlds limited edition was shipped from the UK in one too and it did a great job of protecting the book!! I think I'll go with that first option you suggested, as it seems like a good mix of protection and minimizing cost
The quote I got from Forbidden Planet was 38 GBP per book, which seems sort a high considering my Halo book (same dimensions, format and weight) only cost 10 GBP to ship!
