Default Re: Dragon Age Inquisition

So mine just arrived and honestly, if all the countries did get identical versions then that Reddit post isn't greatly accurate for the most part.

Admittedly I was nervous at first, the sleeve was really tight, two corner pieces fell off (which have easily been glued back on, you'd never know), and when I opened it, it was chaos inside with everything lying everywhere.

Firstly, the case.
The actual case feels nice but I don't like that the banding, corners and even the clasp at the front are plastic. Also the hinges don't really feel the best, was a tad apprehensive of if I open it too much they might give up. Also plastic trays are a slight downgrade from "silk lined" to say the least.

However, the map markers are really nice, particularly the big castle one. It looks and feels massive and surprisingly heavy for being a map marker thing and to me at least, there's no way it's cheap plastic, it has to be at least some kind of resin to feel the way it does. Even with that old antique test of gently biting it, it didn't feel like plastic.
The lion one feels the same aside from the crown/crest thingy above its head, (mine came unassembled weirdly, I found the crown bit lying separate, then the little bar that it clips into through the lion's mouth was somehow on the bottom tray).
Now, the bird and keys, strangely the bases of them felt the same as the above items but the actual bird and keys did feel maybe like plastic but not necessarily cheap plastic to be fair.
And the grey paint on them, looked fine to me.

The Inquisitor badge, the actual backing of the badge feels good, like the same quality of the castle map marker and somehow, even though I can tell it isn't, it has a slightly metallic feel to it. The front detail bit with the tentacle-looking detail does feel cheaper though, feels like you could easily accidentally snap one of the tentacles off. Also I don't like how it sits in the box, I have no idea actually how it's supposed to sit. There's a circular hole in the lid tray for it but it won't fit properly because of the tentacle bits being wider than the backing.

The steelbook is nice, also it's a G2 which is a nice bonus for me because I picked it up on PS4. Can't really say too much more on that. It does contain a code to redeem on Origin (even though it says social.bioware.com), redeemed it but I'm not too sure really what it's for if I'm being honest, could just be like the codes in with the Mass Effect ships.

The quill, meh, standard cheap plastic quill. As with the ink bottle, plain and cheap. I wasn't expecting anything more with them though so I think that's why I'm not disappointed with them tbh, to me they're just a nice little extra thrown in to fit the theme and pad it out.

The lockpicks, not awful. The wrap they're in is really nice, soft to the touch, looks good, the black tie doesn't feel flimsy.
The actual lockpicks though, obviously I would have loved metal ones but if I'm being totally honest, I can understand that they possibly couldn't have given you metal ones under advisement from their lawyers in case it got them into any kind of trouble so to me at least, these might not just fully be a case of them being cheap. For the way they are though, they're not bad once you accept that they're plastic. Mine are painted fine and I don't get the feeling from them at all that they're flimsy or could easily break like suggested in the Reddit post, or even that they're a very cheap plastic, they actually do feel relatively sturdy and decent.

The tarot card though, they are lovely. Feel good quality and the art on them is beautiful. Plus they're a proper deck, they're big enough to actually use if you wanted to.

Now the bottom tray, the cloth map I really like. It's not necessarily the same quality as the DA:O one (Asian CE if it makes a difference), this is more of a soft, silky material, but it more than makes up for it through being massive compared to how pretty much every cloth map I've ever got with a game has been. The printing is clear enough and the colours are vibrant and overall it's just nice to look at imo.

The journal I like too, I always hate when I get a journal from a CE because I know I'll never use it so I like that the lovely leather sleeve which looks and feels good can be slid off of the journal and you can slip another one that you've bought in. The actual journal, nicely coloured ageing effect, the paper feels fine and smells okay.

The coins, I shat myself with, again, total chaos and I could only find two. Turns out the other two were wedged in the underside of the top tray.
These, I would've like metal, obviously so it is a disappointment to get plastic.
Yet again though, it's not the worst plastic I've felt like the negative reviews have said, for just being plastic the weight is okay. The paint is a bit shabby to be fair though.

I can definitely see though how some people have been getting theirs damaged, I do think I lucked out that mine is okay considering the chaos when I opened the box and I think it's probably a mix of bad design to hold everything in place whilst it's being transported and that they've probably been chucked about a fair bit in transport to get everything to fall out of its place like it had.

Hopefully that helps add another side to the negative reviews though, although like I touched on at the start, different regions could have different versions I suppose and maybe the UK just got lucky for the quality of some of the items and that Reddit post is true for their region.
