Re: Defiance
I bought this edition on day one, not knowing that it was an online-only game. Had I known I wouldn't have wasted my money. As it happens, the game became free-to-play on consoles after a short while. I tried to play it, but it seemed extremely slow and always spawned you Miles away from your objective whenever you died. The controls were difficult to master, and the game bombarded you with information straight away rather than giving you a proper tutorial.
I never really understood how the gameplay actually tied in with the short-lived TV series though. One was supposed to affect the other, but I saw nothing to suggest that my actions were affecting the script-writing of the show. It was a good idea on paper, but in practice it really didn't work.
The show has since been axed, and I doubt that the servers for the game will remain active for much longer - if they haven't already been shut off. It's for this very reason that I resent buying CE's for online-only games. It' a nice CE, but could have benefited from a single player campaign mode. Perhaps that way the game would have been as popular as Halo, and would have ensured that the show would live on long after being axed
