It makes perfect sense if they're the manufacturer and not just a reseller - it's cheaper to buy from a retailer because they ship multiple in bulk and save on customs/shipping. They also have agreed demand/sales. With a one-off customer, you're on the hook for all the risk, all the hassle, and paying more to ship 100 pieces to 100 individual customers than to ship 1 lot of 100 to a retailer. So yes, it should be more expensive to sell direct than to buy from the retailer.

No. The resellers probably get 30% off because they purchase in bulk and have favorable agreements. This is Business 101.
Now let's be clear, I'm not saying the shipping is anywhere near fair, because it's not. I've shipped an entire seat of a car US-->Netherlands which is much heavier than any statue and it was less than $100 with tracking.
