Haha, yeah - Believe it or not, a lot of my friends
still won't even entertain the idea of buying an X1 of any kind because of that E3 announcement.
I think at first it made a PS4 far more appealing as the message wasn't very clear with MS then later on it's got to the point of people having everything on PS4 so why bother when there isn't really any "must have" games you can only play on an X1. Regardless of that though I still hear them blame that E3 announcement. Funnily the
only thing that's got a few to consider getting one (but still not actually doing it) is that you can use it as a 4k Blu-Ray player.
For me I think it was that too at first that done it. I went from having 200,000 gamerscore on 360 to this whole gen getting maybe 8,000/9,000 in total. What makes that even worse when you think about it is how MS (in my opinion) ruined gamerscore by fundamentally changing the point system so that anything could have 1,000G. Conversely I went from having 12 platinum trophies between PS3 and Vita at the start of PS4 to having 105 now.
That article really is something. I mean, I actually do think Gamepass is great and I've been trying xCloud which is really cool and so I can sort of see where he's coming from but, and a big but at that, to be saying that, that sounds more like a company getting out of doing what Sony and MS do into a parallel but slightly different area.
Honestly though I have absolutely no idea why Xbox fanboys treat Phil Spencer like some kind of second coming of Christ. He seems like a cool and nice guy as a person but not for an instant can I forget how many times he's said about, "We know you want more exclusives. We hear you saying it. Just wait, soon something is coming." Well, eh, sorry Phil but I've waited for the whole generation because I loved the OG Xbox and 360 so much and in the exclusives department MS have produced shite all of any true value.
Contrast that with PS4 and I still have bits of God of War, Horizon or Days Gone as a few examples stick with me. On Switch the same can be said for Xenoblade 2 or Super Mario Odyssey. Whereas I have to actively think about moments that stuck with me with X1 and all I can think is the X1X startup video is cool and then I just get negative things that have stuck with X1 like how Halo is garbage now under 343 and how Gears also sucks now under The Coalition.
Last point - As someone that loves RPGs - Where the hell are any MS? Can't even give me some Fable 4 for a whole gen?
Bleh.
