I wonder if games editors/producers don't count on that a little bit for marketing purpose... They propose standard, limited, collector editions for most of their games. Ubisoft is proposing 4 or 5 special editions for AC III !!!
IMO, that kind of feeds the underground collecting business, making goodies rare and valuable, and therefore participating in the reputation/fame/success of their licences.

If it doesn't have a statue, I could careless on getting those special editions. I really think its a BS for die hard collectors who don't have the money to spend. Unless you have a crapload of money who don't give a s*it
