Any news of there will be a standalone steelbook only version of the game being offered? Cannot justify myself ordering the collectors edition just for the steelbook.

Yeah, I feel the same.

If not, you should be able to pick it up on eBay after release. That's what I did with Rage 2.

Received my two copies today. I'm a bit dissapointed in them. (These are regular steelbooks, not the one that comes in the CE)
Colors are rather dark. Even darker than on any promo pic and have a certain "shine" effect, that makes them look weird in some angles.
Overall, this could have been executed much better. But I'm still glad to have them. The artwork is still awesome!

Found these pictures online. They illustrade better what I mean with the weird finish.

The steelbook is either to dark or too bright with a color fading effect.
After a couple of more thoughts on it, I cannot recommend it to anyone.
There is just no angle where it looks "good".
To bad, my favorite artwork of em all.
