According to MS the Xbox is basically a media box that plays games.

As far as I can tell they're focusing more on streaming media than the discs though.

Ah ok but they would most certainly run the risk of marginalizing a fair chunk of ppl w/o including a blu ray player

Streaming 1080p movies is certainly possible but damn if it doesn't eat up your internet

Forgot about the state of internet + caps in the US.

Although providers in DK are growing fonder of the idea of caps (they weren't there to begin with).

Yeah not sure how the rest of the world views the US

But for being the biggest economy (soon to be surpassed by china) a lot of our infrastructure is old and poor

We're like 31 in internet speed by country

And I've hit caps before stupid comcast

Hmm, don't remember doing that for ages.

Looks at folders with 50 Gb ISO's.

Aside from that we need a new Blu-Ray standard for 4K and chipsets capable of handling it.

This is going off-topic...
Could try this
But I remember the theoretical maximum of blue ray on its initial release being around the terabyte mark, with confirmed 3 and 4 layer discs already been manufactured and working 8 layer 200GB Here 7 years ago
or how does 25 layers[ that's 625GiB grab you? I think that is sufficient for 4k

Oh yea and I forgot to mention the 1TB Theoretical BluRay now I know its not technically a blue ray disc as its not made within the blue ray specification, but such a thing was rumoured in blue rays early days back in 2006/7 that there isn't a 2 layer limit for the fine blue laser and the limit was theoretically quite high as it wasn't down to the laser as with the DVD standard but down to the disc and how many could fit onto the disc
feel privileged swift

With further news of Sony releasing 4k movies on a download service like internet streaming or something
And the first one's being around the 160GB mark so it seems blue ray has our backs (for now)
And with this being the case
Microsoft would have to have something really special under it hat to NOT have blue ray in the nexbox
