Shouldn't we first have a list of what must be in a CE
Sort of a check list
And then grade the CE's based on those criteria
As otherwise a lot of us will just go for our favourite game or the newest game (cough GTAV)

So
What makes a good CE?
  • Artbook/Mini Art book
  • replica of in game item
  • Figure/ Statue
  • steelbook
What I consider a good CE
Iis not what others would consider a good CE
As I don't want to see a figure or statue in a CE as they can be sold separately
And an art book can be sold separately

So my nomination is:
dead space 3 dev team edition
Because pretty much the entire CE is an in game replace (except for the stupid name plaque)

NiNo Kuni: Wizards Edition
Not worth the 100 GBP price tag but I love the artwork of the box and that they give you an in game replica wizards book which is an art book and a wizards game guide, bit for the price tag its not a lot really

But I also like these 2
Total war II: ROME
(for the replica trebuchet thing)

WATCHDOGS vigilante edition
for the hat and the mask / bit so many games have a CE with a piece of clothing so its not really anything special

So
And really in order to do these sort of thing
We should have had a grading criteria
Like a check list as mentioned and then grade that against the retail price
And it should have been done against every CE that was released as to keep it fair
As this feels a bit like
Let's just give an award to a 4th quarter / next gen blockbuster (well that's what it feels like to me)

But as a value for money bundle of items that ticks every box from the Essential CE list (but I am.biased here)
Art book
Statue/figure
Original soundtrack
Steelbook
Artwork in the style of the game
poster/lithographs/box canvas
It even includes an in game.replica of a flag and map

Let's not forget this thing
OK so o won't play the game and I don't care for the franchise
But it comes with
a map
An art book
A diorama/ statue
A couple in game.replica items
And DLC

Then there's this which hits the spot for a certain type of CE

We also need to ask ourselves what is the point of a collectors edition?
Is it a collection or bundle of items in a package so we don't have to buy anything else?
So
  • A steel book (unique case)
  • Art book
  • Figure / statue
  • Original sound track (OST)
  • Lithograph/ poster/ box canvas(at a push)
  • Box art in the style fitting the game

Which we have all come to expect as standard with a CE

Or is it something unique, different or new
That does NOT include an art book or statue
Sort like the dead space 3 dev team edition where it didn't even include a game in the box because it was as if the CE was taken straight from the game)

Or is it a half way house like the borderlands 2 loot chest, where is contains some in game replicas and one of the "essential" CE items

Or is it just a value for money item?

Just skimmed through the above posts and was wondering how long it would take to get to AC IV Black chest. The Dead Space 3 dev edition is excellent. I have 0040/5000.

Perfect CE for me is:

OST on CD
Hardcover artbook, prefer full size
Steelbook

That has to be the basis, after that i always appreciate a statue or another good quality item. Please no cheap crap.

So you don't buy into all this
"In game replica items" business then Ingmar?
Or is that a different breed/ type of CE

The classic example is the dead island 1 survival edition)

I thought the Bioshock Infinite Songbird edition was short changed with the mini art book especially considering the one in Bioshock 2 was full sized.

Have to say the black GTA V box is my new drool over box now replacing the AC III freedom edition box as the drool over box of choice.

Also I do enjoy a bit of exclusive dlc even though I seem to end up with multiples of the same ones. I would post some in the appropriate section here only I've no idea which ones I've used. Now, like very very recently I've started to put slight rips so I know they're used.

I liked the art work and design of the whole BioShock songbird.edition but I was a little confused as.to why songbird was in the box as the statue of choice
I would have preferred a booker & Elizabeth diorama
But that's just me,
Although the songbird statue is sort of like the big daddy statue in BioShock one CE

Diorama kind of like the Joel and Ellie one of the Post Pandemic Edition.

I have to admit I do like the songbird statue. Only problem is that wingspan. Of course having it in the box means irrational can't charge squillions for it. Ideally they should just have thrown Anna Ormeli into every box apart from comaamens of course.

Frankly I think the Neca figures they did are underwhelming to say the least. Especially Elisabeth.
