Classic Gaming on an RGB CRT

If you do go LCD I recommend getting the highest resolution monitor that you can and then running HLSL in MAME or MESS, the scanline and phosphor glow emulation is superb when setup correctly, but it does require 1080p or higher in order to look right. you wont get the flicker effect of a real crt and you can disable the scanline jitter that is usually responsible for scan-line induced headaches.

this is what I use on my Kraylix cab and while it's not quite the same as a real CRT, it looks 1000x better than the blocky blurry mess that you normally get when running classic games on an LCD

I used to play games on this machine in our area, It was so fun there with bunch of friends in competitive environment and craze of gaming. I think these machines were better for the community rather than these PS because now we are playing individual or online.

So over the weekend I finally cleared off my desk enough to work on that broadcast monitor.

So far I've got the Saturn and the PS1 hooked up, I have a SCART cable on order to get the Genesis going soon. I might pickup a SNES or NES next.

Nice piece of work there and some of these cabinets look great!

I have a fairly comprehensive collection of retro machines including my first ever vic 20 at the time an impressive upgrade to the ping pong we had. It spans from 1st to 5th generation.

I have all the commodores, from the 3k vic 20 through to the Amiga cd32. Yup I'm missing the pet.
Atari wood grain old skool pac man
Zx spectrum from the original through to the +3 disc
Amstrad cpc which came with its own green monitor, you think grainy colour lines is bad? Try green grainy lines
sega, Nintendo, etc. etc.
Of course that was the turning point battle of the consoles, Nintendo and sega so fixated on beating each other, they didn't see Sony coming!!!

The capacitors replaced in most as to preserve original is difficult given age...even the dreaded on board battery in the Amiga can absolutely kill a motherboard even packed away nicely in a loft!!

Wife hates the size of this collection, plus all the games to boot!! But when friends call in and we boot one up for nostalgia it's well worth it as they search through tapes going " I had this! Pop this on" only to realise as a kid it looked awesome cutting edge....but manic miner ain't all that these days!

Replacing caps is a necessary evil, the only real alternative is to not use them.
