According to Swery, it seems like he managed to gather more than half of the funds for the game budget with some third party investors. The Kickstarter itself comprises of about 40% of the money he needs to make this game happen.
Also I just realized the guy responsible for the Panzer Dragoon trilogy is the creative director of this game. How awesome is that?

i am going to be very wary of this one.

an 'open world' game with lots of freedom.... dont want another one to end up like sea of thieves or no man's sky.

granted, it is half the price of a full game. but a previous funding failure is a red flag to begin with.

plus, 'paying off a debt' is not something i am too keen to do in my free time.

for me i will wait and see.

Kickstarter for me so far has been nothing more than a fiasco. I'm still waiting for most of the stuff I helped funding and some of those games are getting European releases way sooner than I'll ever get the backer items in NTSC format. I won't fall for that ever again.

I only kickstarted 4 things so far. Torments: Tides of Numenera which turned out to be shit, Exploding Kitten card game is great, Bear VS babies by exploding kitten team which was just a mediocre card game, System Shock remake that seems to be taking it's time.

You do get some fancy stuff for kickstarting but the end product is hit and miss imo. Problem is you put your money in and can't be refunded like normal preorders.
