Is anyone else here excited to get one? It's been announced to arrive on March 25th in Europe and March 27th in North America in two colors: blue and black. The price for U.S. will be $250, and there are differing prices in Europe, though. Supposedly, it will launch with close to 30 games, including Pilotwings Resort, which I am very eager to play. Just some info on the 3DS:

Characteristic Features:

Upper Screen:
Wide-screen LCD display, enabling 3D view without the need for special glasses. Capable of
displaying approximately 16.77 million colors. 3.53 inches display (3.02 inches wide, 1.81
inches high) with 800 x 240 pixel resolution. 400 pixels are allocated to each eye to enable 3D
viewing.

Lower Screen:
LCD with a touch screen capable of displaying 16.77 million colors. 3.02 inches (2.42 inches
wide, 1.81 inches high) with 320 x 240 pixel resolution.

Cameras:
One inner camera and two outer cameras. Resolutions are 640 x 480 for each camera. Lens are single focus and uses the CMOS capture element. The active pixel count is approximately 300,000 pixels.

Wireless Communication:
2.4 GHz. Enabling local wireless communication among multiple Nintendo 3DS systems for
game play and StreetPass. Enabling access to the Internet through wireless LAN access points
(supports IEEE802.11 b/g with the WPA™/WPA2™ security feature). Recommended distance of
wireless communication is within 98.4 feet. This can be shorter depending on the enviromental
situation. WPA and WPA2 are marks of the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Input Controls: Input controls are the following:
• A/B/X/Y Button, +Control Pad, L/R Button, START/SELECT
• Circle Pad (enabling 360-degree analog input)
• Touch screen
• Embedded microphone
• Camera
• Motion sensor
• Gyro sensor

Other Input Controls: Other input controls are the following:
• 3D Depth Slider (enabling smooth adjustment of the 3D level effect)
• HOME Button (brings up the HOME menu)

The high price is putting me off abit, but it's something I seriously want. I think I will see how the price changes near launch, it will be in limited supply according to Nintendo, so expect high eBay prices.

Yeah, the high price can be off-putting.

Also, we know that over time the hardware itself becomes more refined and produced more cheaply, so it definitely pays to wait. Adopting any new system early has very little benefit, unless you take serious pride in owning the latest technology.

And as you mentioned, there is a certain time-frame to make money through auction sites if the initial supply of the 3DS is indeed low. In this regard, buying a 3DS early can be viewed as nice investment that pays off rather quickly.

250 is to much for me, bought last year the Dsi which is wtill working perfectly.
Local stores have a new offer, trade in a Dsi and pay 150 for the new 3DS.

My God, I dont even want to imagine what Australians will have to pay for the 3DS! Video games are super-expensive there.

Well, I'm just comparing what Australians pay for new videogames/hardware to similar games/hardware in the United States, taking in consideration that the U.S. dollar has a close exchange rate with the AUD currently.

I know that in the past, the Wii, for example, launched at the price of $400 in Australia, compared to $250 in the U.S. Also, new games in the U.S. have a MSRP of $60 or less, while I believe Aussies pay somewhere between $80-$100 for new games. And look at recent exchange rates:

1 Australian dollar = 0.9894 U.S. dollars

But if you're from Europe, you're probably accustomed to paying high prices already.

I would suspect that even though the U.S. dollar and the AUD are at near parity, Aussies may end up paying something like $350 AUD for a 3DS. Yikes!
