Question Steelbook information for beginner collectors

I'm new to collecting steelbooks and just have a few questions as I couldn't find any posts regarding this. What are G1 and G2 steelbooks exactly? Also, when you buy just the steelbook itself, is the game that it originally came with any different than if you were to buy the standard game? Any other information you guys could provide that I may not know or would be good to know is much appreciated.

G1 is Xbox/DVD sized case, G2 is PS3/BluRay sized case.

Sometimes the game may be different, but usually not. Also, a lot of steelbooks nowadays are preorder bonuses, so actually come with no game inside anyway, and the game seperate, inside a standard game case xx

You'll see a lot of posts on new editions saying 'is it a steelbook?' 'oh no... it's not a steelbook!!' When it's in a metal case...

There is a company called 'steelbook' who make most of these special game cases and you can pretty much expect a certain quality / design style etc with their products that maybe you won't get with a 'metalpak' for example - newest rival manufacturer famous for their big spines on the cases!!

Check this out:

It's addictive mind....

Yeah, I've just recently decided to start paying more attention to steelbooks and since my last count (around 6 months ago) my steelbook collection has grown from around 50-60ish to around 100, and between now and Christmas, there's probably around 40 on the way there too! It's insane how addictive it gets xx

Then of course you get the steelbooks that come with plastic slipcovers and those that don't

Then as wella s the game steels there's the blu-ray steelbooks which, if you want to stay sane (or fiancially viable) don't even think about getting in to...

Waaaaayyyyy too late for Vhal on the blu-ray...

Haha, yes. Wayy, waaaaaaay too late for me

If I were you, I'd choose one sub-genre of collecting to stick to, be it Xbox releases, Ps3 releases, UK releases only, PAL releases only, NTSC releases only, G1/G2 steelbooks only, game/movie steelbooks only, etc, etc.

I did the most money-draining option, and chose to collect anything and everything xx

Just to add, from what I know G2 is the ones you would want to collect because it more limited than G1, but I game on PC so I prefer both. If you have a new steelbook with no factory seal, you would like to put it inside a plastic protection you can get on ebay, it can easily be scratched and many collectors are anal about it, yeah this is some serious business.
- Just last night I had a nightmare that half of my steels are bent lol

Also just recently I found out that you can actually separate the metal casing from the plastic cd holder if you want to put your own picture. I'll try to find the video later
There is a steelbook collecting guide here on the forum but its a very old post, I believe by foreverflash. I'll try to post it when I found it.

Yeah, I've seen many people do that Xmo, the only thing is it's very risky when you first start doing it as you can easily damage the steel

Also, I wouldn't buy one with a modded internal artwork, purely because it's not the original (albeit I could probably remove the mod) xx

You need to know the difference between a steelbook and a "stickerbook"

Steelbook (the art is printed on the box, including the sides)

Stickerbook (It's a blank steelbook with the art applied as a sticker)

In therms of quality, Steelbook > Stickerbook, the only diff is how the art is printed on it.

Now Steelbook, Metal Pack, Ironpack and Metal Box

Here you can see the diff between steelbook, iron pack and metal box

Here is the old thread I found when I began lurking this forum

http://collectorsedition.org/forums/...ead.php?t=7102

And here is the youtube video on how to put your own artworks inside steelbooks
