This is the bane of a true collectors existance,the many people that have no love or interest in something. They buy it simply to profit from the unfortunate who werent quick enough to buy something because some idiot bought 20 of them minutes earlier to re-sell to the poor collector who missed out. I suspect that we are close to the bursting of a speculative bubble similar to the one that hit the comics in the 90's, if anyone knows what I mean.
At that time there were a lot of variant covers that sold a lot, but only because many people buy them to resell them at higher prices to the collectors.
