Exclamation So, who wants some blank steelbooks?

Doodle on them. Put stickers on them. Paint them. Vinyl wrap them.

The possibilities are endless!

Finally a way for you to have custom cases for all your video games/movie needs.

Hold 1 disc, 2 discs, red discs, blue discs. All the discs!

So what's the catch?

Well, I'll let the email I just got from Jennifer at Steelbook.com do the talking for me:

Hi Brandon,

Thank you for reaching out and inquiring about SteelBook. We can definitely have a chat about putting together an order for you. Our minimum order quantities are 4000 pieces for Blu-ray and 8000 pieces for DVD. The Blu-ray size is produced in Ohio and the DVD size is produced in Denmark, both of these will have shipping/freight costs, but the shipping/freight costs of the DVD size will be ocean charges.

Please let me know if these quantities are within your range and we can move forward from there.
Thank you,
Jennifer

Goodness gracious.

Wowza, that's a lot of Steelbooks! I suppose you could "make" one for every single one of your games though haha - would also give you a place to use all those random stickers they give out as promo items/CE fluff

Honestly, the more I laughed about it today, the more I thought that I could seriously use probably 500 for my games alone. If I wanted to do my movies, I could probably hit 1000 for myself (with a few to spare for future releases).

I can't be the only dude with a few hundred games/blu-rays that could use some blank cases. Maybe it's not entirely unachievable. A handful of psychos like me would easily squash 4000 cases.

You're not kidding.

I always see this nice vector art for games that I could absolutely either paint on myself (after printing out a template) or get printed for a buck or two from some vinyl wrap place, like this:

I mean, a whole collection of custom steelbooks? Now with PS4 and Xbone officially sporting the blu-ray size, this doesn't actually seem that outlandish.

Maybe if I get enough interest I will actually go through with this. Going to post about it on some of my other haunts to see if people are into it.

Yeah, you could really make a go of it if you found a good custom printer-er in the area. I'm sure if you let him know you had over 1,000 custom jobs for him to print out HQ wraps etc. you could work out a great contract/deal per unit. Definitely feasible if you've got the mind and money to do so.

I doubt you could order 4000 steels from Scanovo and get 4000 unique steelbooks

They'd likely all have to be the same.

I've tried my hand at creating my own steelbook and found that transferring images onto treated metal is difficult

This, and this is what I told OP separately.

As some people who have been here for a long time know, I have met with Scanavo personally and tried to get custom steelbooks going. However, they would not allow less than 4000 MOQ. On top of this, you have to be certain they would allow you to have 4000 plain steelbooks; I am not sure this is beneficial to them, as they make money on the printing.

Toronto is pretty much full of graphic designers/printers. I have a friend who is a professional graphic designer that I'm sure would toil around on some designs for me in her free time.

Never said unique steels, mate. This whole thing is about blank steelbooks. Do whatever you want with them once you get them. Then again, I could always have "Brandon Rules!" engraved on them before I send them out, if you'd like.

I'll get back to your PM shortly.

Otherwise, when I inquired I asked about blank ones, so far they've not mentioned anything about not being able to shoot some blanks my way, but if it comes up, that could be a wrench in the gears.
