I read some article that modern settings in AC4 will be a complete optional. you can finish the game without playing the modern or you can still play it if you prefer. And you will find out what happen to desmond if you play all the modern part.

It will be like any of the previous AC games. Some of the present day stuff are mandatory (ex: main plot stuff where they force you out of the animus) but most of it will be optional (other ex: laptop/emails in AC1, talking with Becca/Shaun AC2, exploring Monteriggioni + dialogue ACB, etc).

Thanks for the link Lil, funny thing is, I don't know mine if this is the one with the cards (on your link) or the tin with the certificates inside (I believe this one doesn't have a game included inside)

Details about those editions are hard to find and I don't know which came.with which consoles
But I would say that both Xbox and ps3 versions where available for the art cards version and the bonus DVD/ cert if authority version

that's the only reason that holding me off to buy it. they are very ... very high prices.
I would buy a second hand as long as the price interest me.
