I'm a bit the same, if it's something I'm concerned about getting damaged, I plead with the seller to make sure it's packed properly, also trying to word it without being condescending or patronizing.

Most times it pays off.

Usually I just threaten that if it's not packed well it will create a hassle where I have to raise claims etc. I've gotten a few packages where 1 steelbook was packed in a box as big as the skyrim CE. I had to rummage through all the padding to find the steel

I usually don't threaten but I do follow up accordingly if my instructions were not followed or I feel that common sense was not painfully used when packaging (well only if it was damaged, in some cases without damage I tell them how lucky they were so they don't have issues in the future).

I just got a press kit in the mail just the yesterday morning (the press kit has a thing outer cardboard box... very thin) and the seller shipped it in a box that he made himself and he made it the smallest he could. So there was no cushioning room at all, basically and damage to the box itself would translate to damage to the item inside... this was not thought out. Well it was though out but the only thought was that of saving on shipping costs. Lucky for him and me really) there was only light damage to the bottom of the item box and I was generous (or I thought I was) and asked for a very small amount for the error.

The seller make have save 1 or 2 euro but shipping this was but risked losing the whole amount of the item from it being damaged. Items like that should be shipped in a box where there is at least a inch space all the way around the item where packing is placed to adsorb dents from impacts. It is far cheaper to do it the right way every time.

This method works as i have done it. Unfortunately sending it like that from heres makes it a parcel as its to thick to be considered a letter,so i usually end up putting them in a box anyway, lol. Same method should apply to comics & other books as well if sending in an envelope, wrap book in cardboard first then in envelope

Good stuff.
I ship a little different.

I wrap my steelbook in bubble wrap, then i place them between cardboard and finally place them in a bubble envelope.

I surprised when i receive steelbook and people put them in a bubble envelope or worse a regular envelope.

Damn, that's way easier than how I packaged them.

Wrapping mine in padding and then plastic wrap always turns out looking like 5kilos of uncut, pure, Colombian cocaine.

Could fit more per box with this method as well.

Good thinking.
