It's a business and marketing strategy.

Supply and demand is what most companies usually do, although at times in order to get more spotlight, they limit the supply and attract more potential buyers that way.
Sometimes people just want what they can't get.

Also, it works as a safe move in case the game does not sell well (since it is not a COD game) and they do not get stuck with leftover copies that will have to be clearance sooner or later.

If they are selling more than 5000 copies in the US wouldn't that be false advertising? Isn't that illegal? not that i think people will actually care or maybe SE will just put a random number on each copy to hide that fact.

They can always say something like. Due to massive demand we have increased the production to XXXX! and it will be totally legal.

there not keeping 5000 in the US and just 2000 in Europe..remember earlier the US said "SOLD OUT!" in big red block letters,..those are all just gimmick false marketing tactics..most likely they are doing a reprint, of an additional 5000 units of the collectors box, and book, and etc...of those, they'll throw 2000 at Europe with a DLC card in it, and just box up the other 3000 additions with the game thrown inside for the US..both have identical novellas, Identical boxes, (of course slip cover will have different ratings) and throwing in a game or a dlc card is a pretty easy swap before they wrap them up in cellophane...this is just a hunch I have...that there's a reprint, and 2000 of that is going to Europe.

doubt it as the ratings and logos would be different.

so can't really be a re-print.

It seems more likely to me that the 5000 just didn't sell out as fast as originally thought (which makes sense, it did sell out surprisingly quick). Either they posted the SOLD OUT thing and then kept putting more up to trick people into thinking it was in extremely high demand, or a lot of people have been cancelling preorders or SE have been cancelling people's orders due to them maybe trying to order more than 2. I think if they were dicks and were just milking this, it wouldn't still be limit 2 per customer.
