Some people are speculating that it's 5000 per system because the numbers on the cases seem to be all over the place between both systems. Personally, I'm not sure why people think they would be sequential for each system (i.e. #1-2500 for 360, #2501-5000 for PS3). I'm sure the display cases were manufactured separately from the other components and then sent to some centralized location where they were packaged with the rest of the items. It seems doubtful that they would go through the extra work to check each plaque and make sure that the numbers for each system stay within a certain range.

Only way to prove 5000 per system would be finding the same number on both which would be hard Personally think it's 5000 overall and the twitter responses suggest it

I'm actually very glad Gamestop cancelled my order. Only having 5000 in existence is pretty cool. But everything except for the display case and cloth and packing is included in the mass produced Wub Wub edition.
The materials don't seem to be all that amazing, and while it's cool that the GotG edition does come in it's own packaging, as opposed to getting the Wub Wub edition packaging with the display case in a seperate box, the unique GotG packaging is a flimsy cardboard box with everything held inside with clear plastic. Pretty lame IMHO. Comparing this with the Dead Space 3 Dev-team edition, which was ALSO limited to 5,000 BTW, the Dev edition had much, MUCH higher quality contents. Even if it was missing the actual game |

yea the outside box is crap cadboard. the artwork is nice but its extremely thin and flimsy. its going to be tough displaying it while at the same time taking care of it. BUT im glad i got it. i honestly think every collectors edition should be limited to 5000 or less. it makes getting one that much more exciting and its actually "limited" and not at gamestop 6 months later for half the price. sure ill miss out on some......i still want that damn dead space 3 dev team edition......but ill have some others dont have as well. anyone else feel that way?
