The ps4 is only region locked for psn but when it comes to games you can game world wide disc from any country. The same goes for xbox one in China but when the originally released Xbox one in China is was region locked so the only way to make it region free for disc is to do an update it was update to support world wide disc after ps4 came out. Same thing goes for the vita in china you can only use a main land china account on the thing anything will just block you. You can not even use a VPN to access a foriegn psn account on the ps4 its 100% impossible the only way it to import a ps4 as non Main land china ps4s can access a China psn.

Mainland China ps4 is nothing exciting they hardly have anything released because the government wont allow for alot of the ps4 games to be released and they made them edit rayman legends taking out the online or it was not allowed to be released. Want your call of duty or your GTA 5 well you cant have them there banned buy the China government.

Wish they'd over pre-orders for the North America gamers, with fee for shipping. If enough orders are made and paid, the are built and shipped. If not the funds transfer into your PSN Account. That may show our interest.

My understanding is China requires the system and games to be Region Locked to be allowed in.
PS4 systems can only connect to PSN in China. Only China released games play in the PS4, and no others. China released games only work in the Chinese PS4.

Na Games from mainland china can be played on any ps4 or vita games from any contry as long as there disc can play on any Mainland china ps4. The hole reason the ps4 got delayed in China was sony was working out with the Chinese government so the thing could be region free for disc after words microsoft just updated the Xbone. With the net China does not want Chinese going on foreign net or something. A lot of pictures of launch day i China just showed a bunch of Chinese with imported games because The ps4 released with 5 games only on launch day and the vita was only 4 and sense launch only about 2 or 3 games have came out on both systems there not much to anything. 3 or 4 games That are download exclusive come from Chinese indi developers. I should know I own rayman legends from China and enough foriegners have rayman legends on ps4 from China already. The Mainland China ps4 is only region locked from psn and other internet activities I am not sure how resticted it is when importing and game when playing online. As of right now I beleave no game on ps4 or Vita has any sort of online feature to know if you can play online feature in Mainland China ps4 games. Also Mainland China ps4 and vita games are released in Simplified Chinese (as required by the government even the titles) while Chinese games from HK and TW are released in Traditional Chinese. If the systems was not region free I feel the system would have suffered alot of sales because Chinese would get bored with near next to nothing to play.

PSN is region free you can get am american psn and get on hk, Japanese, Eu and so on psn store. Dlc is not exactly region locked how the dlc works is its based on the game id the dlc is built for one game Id so there are chances in europe were you can say buy the french disc and be able to use the dlc from Spain psn because the same exact game id. There even the rare case were an AU copy can work with EU dlc its all based on game ids from my understand not much to do with region locking. Then there are time were 2 differen disc ids are released in eu and you could by dlc and the might not work. It is a strange case by case thing when it comes to games. Sense psn is not region locked dlc/download games can be played on any single psn account as long as the psn account is active on the system after download you can change to another region account and play the game.

Thank you for the response and please forgive my oversight. I am not talking about the limited trial period where devices and sales had to occur in the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) of Shanghai, PRC. PlayStation began selling in the FTZ in March of 2015.

Current these systems are only PSN Locked, making a PS4 and PS-Vita manufactured in China and sold legally (not an illegal import) only able to connect to China's PSN service. Updates are able to arrive from foreign servers but owners of China PS4 and PS-Vita are limited in just PSN access today.

This does not restrict systems sold outside China. As of today, Chinese and other PS systems are able to connect to China PSN and create a China PSN account.

Yet things are about to be different. A recent NYT article discussed the end of China's 13 year ban on Video Games is being ended. This is also changing the restrictions China places Video Game and Consoles released in mainland China. The NYT article I mention is just a couple days old. It does state Region Locks are being required on all Video Game System & Games.

I have only witnessed the restriction on FTZ PS4 devices being forced to connect with the China PSN. While a PS4 outside of China is able to create the PSN account on China PSN.

I hope once all is said and done, Sony does not add any restrictions on there systems, servers nor games.

Retail Games include a code which restricts the DLC that works with the game. This also limits where the updates are downloaded. Codes could include multiple regions and multiple codes maybe on a release. The code(s) define the PSN servers that are valid.

e.g. A game imported to North America from HK and the code allows HK and TL access:
1) DLC must be downloaded from either an HK or TL PSN account to work with the game.
2) Updates and patches are avaliable when available in either HK or TL.
3) DLC from other areas do not work with the game
4) Updates released outside HK and TL do not work with the game.

The game publisher defines the code for each game. An imported game could use the local PSN for updates and DLC if the game includes the code for that PSN.

Forgot to clarify that each game release is unique. This means a game released in a region more than once may not include the same codes.
