Looks like Silver Mario was finally "officially" announced by Nintendo on their amiibo page -- release date 5/29/15 (Canada apparently had preorders last night on amazon.ca).
Also, BestBuy reportedly has stock of Meta Knight in their DCs, so should be restocking those fairly soon for anyone in NA who missed out on him before!

 via eBay I've been following the eBay search "prototype amiibo" since before it even returned any results, and have seen enough by now to know this isn't a fake.
