Those cards are going to get ridiculously expensive to collect though. At 6 cards per pack (estimated at $5.00 right now), randomly assorted, with holos mixed in...ugh. They know what they are doing because games like MTG and Pokemon (an affiliate) have given them the perfect road map. Did anyone happen to hear the Planet Money podcast about the Black Lotus card from MTG...it's actually a pretty good listen if you have a chance. But basically it talked about how Wizards of the Coast eventually figured out a smart way to print these card sets -- essentially by making some cards rare (but not so rare that the second hand price gets out of reach for most people). Pokemon are the exact same way, there are some rare cards, but most can be picked up second hand for about $25-$35. I see this as the future of Amiibo trading cards. They're already coming out in series, and I'm certain that they'll eventually have different sets for various IP. Get ready. |

Re: The Nintendo Amiibo Discussion Thread
I decided when I first started that if amiibo's merged with skylanders in some way I would not get those so i'm not. The different colored R.O.B I'm going to try and get both but if I can't it's no biggie.

I'm actually the exact opposite of you. I'll pick up the skylander's ones, but I won't go for the R.O.B. variant since it is not intended for release in NA. I've been able to keep myself from the temptations of international collecting for this long, I can't start now. |

Re: The Nintendo Amiibo Discussion Thread
I can never remember to preorder each new wave. Someone needs to remind me whenever the next wave goes up x

Re: The Nintendo Amiibo Discussion Thread
I agree, it takes a lot to collect these. Follow amiibo news they are very good.

The gist of it as I remember is that the manufacturer became aware of how expensive this one special card had become on the secondhand market, and they realized right then and there that they had to make a decision between: doing nothing about it and allowing hype (and short term riches) to build around outrageous resale prices until their then-new game turned into a flash-in-the-pan fad; OR they could start printing more of the Black Lotus, keeping a close eye on the secondhand market until supply and demand naturally brought down the price to something like $25 instead of $1,000. They choose to do the latter, which was obviously the right choice in the long run since MTG has been around for a long time now and is still successful and popular today.
