it was removed yesterday, but these pics are just prototypes anyway. The real one will be a little smaller.

Still no news on US GameStops allowing preorder of this. I asked the brains guys and he told me there's still no word on it, but confirmed that they WILL have it and that he'll call me as soon as it's available.

The gun tray you see in the pictures Legendary Drinker provided here come from 2K Elizabeth (who is community manager of 2K on their forums and out in public at conventions and such). That is her dog "Pancake" -lmao what a perfect name. What you see in the picture is a prototype. The gun tray will NOT come with the consumer version of the Loot Chest. Also, as someone else said, the actual size may be a bit smaller than that too.

How do you know for sure? Was that clearly said or have you seen conclusive pictures of the final version of the consumer version (the only picture I've seen released for the consumer version has the chest closed)?

forever flash asked them on twitter they said the chest would be gunless as the purpose was to have a empty tray to put the loot edition contents on to display.

Highly unlikely.

But, keep your eyes peeled and your internetz open, because I hope it's possible that as we draw near to release of Borderlands 2, Gearbox/2K might decide to do an "extra" special limited/numbered run of the Loot Chest, possibly using their gearbox store @ http://shop.gearboxsoftware.com/borderlands/

This is JUST a hopeful guess. In no way shape or form has Gearbox or 2K indicated this would be a possibility at all. I'm hoping they do something Similar to what they did for Kingdoms of Amalur.
