Interesting that it's says it's a DRM free copy, does this mean standard copies are not DRM free.

It depends where you get it. Steam is technically DRM. Them delivering a non-DRM version is not surprising though... the Humble Voxatron Debut bundle that went on last year had The Binding of Isaac DRM free.

(Humble Voxatron Debut was from Humble Indie Bundle. If you like indie games, check them out)
