Killer Instinct Pin Ultimate Edition
Published by Microsoft
Released in United States on Nov 22, 2013 at a price of $59.99
The Pin Ultimate Edition of Killer Instinct is a book shaped case designed to hold and display collectable pins. It comes with 2 pins: a “Jago” pin and a “3D Killer Instinct Logo” pin. It does not include a physical copy of the game but rather DLC codes for the following content:
- All season 1 characters (8)
- All season 1 costumers (8)
- All season accessory packs (16)
- Early access to all season 1 content
- The original Killer Instinct classic arcade game
History:
The Pin Ultimate Edition was co-created by Penny Arcade and is an extension the “Pinny Arcade” Pin collecting program. The “Pin Ultimate” edition name is a pun on the term “penultimate”. Since the game was only planned to only ever be released as a downloadable title Microsoft and Penny Arcade wanted to create something physical for collectors. The Pin Ultimate Edition only includes 2 pins but has space for 16 in the display book, encouraging gamers to accomplish tasks both in-game and in the real world to obtain the remaining pins. The hope being that the pins would serve as a real-world version of the Xbox “Achievement” system. [source].

Fill that empty void on your game shelf with the custom Pin Ultimate Edition folio. Designed by Penny Arcade, the folio opens to display the two included Pinny Arcade collector pins: Jago and Killer Instinct 3D Logo. Each character will get its own pin and the official Killer Instinct page will reveal surprise pins, every month until the end of the season, that can be earned through your community and in-game efforts.**
Box includes a game download from Xbox Live. No disc is included.
Nice find.
strange in the way..that you may NEVER be able to complete this pin set..depending on how promo goes..you may have to pay a arm and a leg..or they may just sell them outright once the fad is over and this promo tanks.
Do they take payment up front for this? And can you order from the UK or would I need a US member to assist? xx
If it's a US only item, I'd be happy to help out overseas members.
Someone confirm that it's US only please.
meh i sense alot of meh from this edition
I like it
Ultimate pin collectors unite
this will probably also be in the Microsoft stores that compete with the apple stores here in the US at least....plus limited edition to Microsoft means limited edition halo LOL..etc..we all know where that road leads too....plus I say 12 months from now..there will be a disc verison...killer instinct game of the year edition..probably will be disc based.
This is MS's push to get casuals etc. to buy digitally
That's what they want
I just talked to someone on the chat box on the Microsoft website where they sell this game and he said that black box art is not final..lol..and the cover art has not been released yet..but I don't believe him..i think he is just speculating because I asked if that is the boxart or not?
here's the official MS announcement on this edition: http://playxbla.com/killer-instinct-...ven-pre-order/
more (useful) info on this has been posted on Penny Arcade: http://www.penny-arcade.com/2013/10/14/pin-ultimate
also the edition name "Pin Ultimate" is a pun on the word "Penultimate"
the most up to date info seems to be going on in this thread on the PA forum: http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discu...ity-thread/p28
thank you for the updated info twisted S....so there is NO standard xbox one game case?..i thought it would be housed in a standard case..so it is a book instead?....msn store chat mislead me..they specifically told me it was to be a standard G2 style plastic gamecase....this article mentions nothing like that..i am confused about what this product will end up looking like.
Based on what was Posted on PA this is the impression I get
-There are no plans to release the game in disc format
-Because there is no physical release they wanted to make a CE for collectors that could fit on a shelf next to other games (so likely G2 sized)
-The case is designed to look like a book so chances are it will be made of heavy cardboard (similar to a hard cover book)
Honestly it damn well better be something other than a cheap plastic case for the prices it's going for.
At first I thought this edition was pretty lame, but after reading the PA post about how they want to essentially have a physical display of achievements, I'm super psyched for it now, as well as the challenge of collecting all of the pins.
this following message was e-mailed to me by penny arcade ..... It's my understanding that it will be about the size of a hard cover book. So it will be taller and wider than a standard game case. This is so that it can comfortably fit 16 pins inside. Mike wrote a bit about it here if your interested in the details. I also spoke directly with Brian our merch manager who is managing this project on our end to confirm those details.
I just came back from playing this game. It is absolutely amazing. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed the game. It is easily one of my most anticipated next gen games now.
I got to play it back in September and I can't wait for it's release in November.
---------------
On the topic of the Pin Ultimate Edition very clear details have been released: http://playxbla.com/killer-instinct-...in-a-nutshell/
so according to that you'll be able to outright buy any of the pins for $15 a pop as they're unveiled. (so since there are 14 pins not included with the set you're looking at $210 before shipping costs for the whole set )
Apparently the only way to get the character pins is the buy them (there are 8 character pins and 1 is included) there are 8 "Engagement" pins and these can be earned for free by completing in-game challenges or attending events (apparently you still have to pay shipping though) once again the first of these pins in included in the set so you really only have to earn 7 of them.
So if you can accomplish all 7 challenges then you're STILL looking at $105 to buy all of the character pins before shipping.
Honestly I would have expected the pins to cost half as much , and I would have appreciated if all 14 of the non-included pins were "engagement" pins that had to be earned and not just bought outright.
EDIT: I just checked out the Penny Arcade online store and the pins there average about $6 a pin (http://store.penny-arcade.com/search?q=Pin), which I think is fair... so my guess is either the $15 is just the "Suggested" retail price and they'll actually be cheaper. or MS wants a huge pile of cash for licensing fees more than doubling the price of the pins.

Oh and if you're wondering the "Top Secret" character is Fulgore... someone caught the image before it was censored
http://www.killerinstinctcentral.com...er-is-fulgore/
how is the game code itself going to be packaged?..in a separate xbox one game case?
