The 10 Best CEs of the Last Generation [Archive]

Ooh neat, im going to need have a look through all my ce's though.
Will update post later.

Let me outline my criteria for a CE.

The things i generally want in my CE are:
- steelbook
- artbook (hardcover and prefer big size)
- physical soundtrack cd.
- statue

Things to consider, price and rarity.

2nd of all price has to be good for what you get.

1. Uncharted Explorer Edition, very rare. Great chest, nice statue. And the pack that holds the game has a lovely velvet feel.
2. Assassins Creed IV Black Chest edition, very nice big box, great statue, cd, steelbook and artbook (should have been bigger) plus canvas frame (also should have been bigger). Price was good for what you got. And quite rare (only downside was only available through shitty digital river).
3. All NISA CE, unfortunately i had to sell them due to finances, but they were all great, physical soundtrack, artbooks, rare, and affordable price. Plus great service from NISA.
4. Starcraft II collectors edition (both original and HoS), great price, great artbook, physical soundtrack. Only missing a steelbook.
5. Gta IV collectors edition, artbook (albeit to small), cd, and very nice lockbox i still use everyday. And for a good price.
6. Uncharted Fortune Hunter Edition, im not sure if it counts since you could only win it (maybe more for a press kit category), but it was the most awesome item in it, plus its rare as fuck.
7. Dead Space dev team edition, lot of contents in theme of the game. Downside (or maybe up, so now i could check inside), it was not sealed.
8. Bioshock 2 CE, nice sturdy box, a LP, artbook. Contents great. Only overproduced as fuck, so it bombed price wise unfortunately.
9. Last of Us post pandemic edition, pretty good statue, rare. Should have included the fullsize artbook though.
10. Metal Gear Rising CE, steelbook + huge awesome lamp. Should have been 20 dollar cheaper though, and more QA of the lamp (many broken).

I played few games but I don't collect CEs of them, so I have no idea of their CEs, only see it with the others. and I only Collect one game. and I'm sure anyone know what it is.

- Among other CE (even other games CEs), I find this CE rich with the contents. statue,art book, soundtrack, steel book, a lot more.

-Some of you may not agree with me, but I nominate this simply because this is my personal favorite CE. I feel in love the first time Ive seen this edition, the design of the Collectors Box and the coin simply got my eyes. for me it is simple but elegant.

This is actually a great question I would love to hear people's personal opinions about their personal favorite CE's. With so many CE's that where released this year (Some being way too expensive and exclusive) there's actually quite a few I find very amazing (Even though they might not have been such a great game).

Now i'm sort of breaking the rules.. My list is only my top 5 favorite CE of last generation and it doesn't go from best to last or one I personally like better than the other but it's a list of CE's that I feel really took it all the way with the items it contained to their rarity etc..

Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Wizard Edition

Like many people... I got screwed by Namco and my pre-order was canceled, but with that being said it just made this CE so much more desirable. It quickly became rare and I personally just love when CE's have in word items like the wizard companion book that thing is amazing... and who wouldn't love a plushie of a in game character? I mean this thing is pretty much perfect except for one little concept....

Uncharted 3 Explorer Edition

Now I personally always felt that European CE's where ALWAYS better than their American counterparts and this can confirm it... It actually was limited and I just love the travel case, the ring and the belt buckle it comes with. Although it didn't have a steelbook, it still came with a very cool digibook that contained tons of cool art so the lost of not having a steelbook was actually ok.

Must I really say anything? This HAS to be on everyone's top 10 list. I've yet to find one in either mint condition or that is not selling for over 500 USD but my eyes are always open for this beautiful beautiful piece.

This has to be by far my favorite assassin's creed game. With that being said this edition has not only become super expensive to find in mint condition but I love the fact that it comes in two different color variants. Why buy one when you can buy 2? :P

As a fan of Final fantasy. I have to agree that the 25th aniversarry box is a great edition.
I also want to have one of those, but nearly impossible for me now, since it would be very rare.

My personal Top 10

1. Tales of Vesperia Special Edition

Very "classy" - great looking steelbook and a disc soundtrack

2. Ni No Kuni Wrath of The White Witch Wizard's Edition (US)

Okay, I have to admit, I'm a sucker for plushies and there are not much editions that come with a plush but it is not just the plush. the wizard companion book is very detailed and makes you think you could cast your own spells but they did not include the wand.

3. Magna Carta 2 Limited Collector's Edition

This is a great edition in so many ways. Not only that it is numbered but it also comes with a faceplate. With the introduction of the Xbox 360 Slim, faceplates could no longer be used which makes them even more special to me. The rest of the content is super classy (soundtrack, artbook, poster) - Everything is packed in this nice glittery black box which makes this one of the best editions to me.

4. Sonic Generations - Collector's Edition

An Edition which really worships the 20th anniversary of sonic. I like how the box and the statue focuses on the classic and the modern sonic character. The Box is sturdy and looks great on every shelf. The numbered ring is just the tip of the icberg and of a really great edition. I really like that they did not just include the standard version of the game but the limitied lenticular cover edition game.

5. Final Fantasy XIII-2 Crystal Edition

Many editions include a soundtrack cd but this one came with the whole 4-dics soundtrack in a nice digipack packaging. Together with the other content and a great outer box this edition really deserves to be under my top 10

6. Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition

Just one word...."legendary". This is an edition which every serious xbox 360 collector should have in their collection. It just has everything. The little nick nacks, signed lithograph art and an awesome outer box + it is numbered.

7. Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Dark Edition

A lenticular outer box, fully in black. I'm sold!

Well, I'm a sealed collector I admit that the look of the outer box really affects my purchase decisions. But together with the heavy hardcover artbook and a sweet medallion this is one of the best editions for me. I just love it when ce's include little nick nacks from the protagonist.

8. Dragon Age Origins Collector's Edition in Wooden Box

To be honest, this Edition does not have much to offer. It just came with some filthy in game items, a bonus dvd and a cloth map. So, why do I nominate this edition?
Easy, because of the wooden box! Almost every edition comes with a cardboard box, tin or metal box. Am I the only one who thinks: "boring"?
Why do the publisher not try something new? For this reason, the wooden box alone is already enough to be under my top 10!

9. Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning Signature Edition

A bit pricey and it came not together in one branded box but it deserves to be here nevertheless. Limited to only 300 pcs, a high quality Troll figure which is signed and items you can also find in the actual game like the destiny cards.

10. Fable 3 Limited Collector's Edition

One of the first editions that introduced an outer box created in the likeness of a book. Everything seems of good quality, overall an solid edition even if it did not offer much content.

Since I mostly collect PAL games, I will focus on PAL versions only.

What's a good edition to me?
- Quality of the game itself: It must be from a good or remarkable game.
- Quality of the items included: Its contents must have good quality. I don't mind if they don't have an important item like a figure/statue or an artbook, as much as the quality of everything it includes is worth it.
- Package Design: The package design must be good and the materials used must be hard/resistant and provide a good protection for all the contents. A package is part of the edition itself and I don't understand how good and expensive editions do not have a good package as well: mostly fragile card boxes that have problems travelling by mail... So many packages fail so hard...
- Launch Price: The launch price must be fair for the contents it includes. It doesn't matter if it has lots of stuff or just a couple of special items, as much as the price is fair.
- Exclusivity: Is it really limit, or doest it end up in the bargain bin? Exclusivity is important in these cases, otherwise no edition is worth its price.
- Originality: The items it comes with must have some meaning and not just be there because someone thought the edition had to come with it.
(I don't like Steelbooks, they have too many problems, so I don't count those in favour of a good CE)

Without any particular order:

- Halo Reach Legendary Edition (360)
Unlike so many other editions, this one has a great outer package. It includes the regular CE (which is good enough on its own) and also includes an epic statue: the team that got eliminated on planet Reach. The statue adds a lot of meaning to this edition and it looks great on display, unlike so many other figures included with these editions. It wasn't mass produced and it's fairly big.

- Bioshock 2 Special Edition
This one was one of the best. The package, the design, its contents, an awesome artbook and posters with gimmicks including hidden messages, all for a pretty good price. The only let down is its exclusivity. It was available everywhere for a very low price, but it's still one of the best.

- Sonic Generations Collector's Edition
Awesome, probably my favourite edition of last gen. Great price, great exclusivity (it's even numbered), package is good, it looks great, statue is pretty awesome for display and comes with very cool extras. It's nearly perfect for fans.

- Assassin's Creed 2 Black Edition
The package might not be the best, but for an older edition, this was badass. The retail price was very good considering how tough it became to find. Has plenty of extras and a pretty cool looking figure. It may not be as impressive as the newer AC editions, but it was less expensive and included the most important things in a CE, IMO far better than what came after in the AC franchise.

-Dasksiders II Premium Collector's Edition (french exclusive)
Not many editions have the privilege of including such a sturdy package and a top quality item like the mask this one comes with, which is far far better than the regular CE released in Europe and US. It's individually numbered and may not include plenty of stuff like so many other editions, but everything it includes is of pretty good quality. A true collector's edition.

- Skyrim Collector's Edition
I have a hard time putting this in a top 10 because the outer package is no big deal and its original price was off the limit. However, the hardcover artbook included is great, one of the very few included in a CE that rivals Bioshock 2's artbook. The statue is one of the best looking statues ever included in such an edition. Sure, it's a dragon and dragons always look cool, but this one is actually very detailed and it's almost impossible to go unnoticed if you place it in your living room.

- Uncharted 3 Explorer Edition (PS3)
A good quality chest full of goodies and includes the Special Edition sold separately that has such a unique design. The chest has real wood and all items included look great. The statue is a little too small and not really impressive but that's the only let down I can find in this edition. It sold out pretty quickly and there weren't that many produced. Its price was also a little off.

- The Last Story Limited Edition (Wii)
This is one of the few cases where a small edition that costs nearly the same as a regular game offers decent contents to deserve being included in this top. It's beautiful and includes a steelbook, a premium soundtrack that kills most of the music selection CDs included in most CEs and also has a decent artbook. Considering its retail price was just 60 euros, the contests are very good.

- Gears of War 3 Epic Edition (360)
What to say about this? Comes with a big and impressive statue (not the best quality in the world, but looks great nonetheless), sturdy package, includes the full CE sold separately.

And that's my top. Those are the ones I considered to be the best editions released in Europe.

While we might get a few more CEs from the 360 and PS3 they seem to be done for the most part. I think it might be cool to take a look back at the last generation...

So I'm interested in what you all think... Nominate any game you think belongs among the 10 best CE's of the last generation?

Like the topic good re-think to CE of the year. The one thing I have come to is that people who come here love to play and collect CE games and all sorts no matter what platform.

With the new consoles in the early stages who knows what is round the corner to get you to spend your coin on (Titenfall CE) lets hope this cloud base (PS now) gaming dose not kill or reduce CE to dlc only as I can see the soundtrack in physical form gone with Sony not having any form of music on the PS4 at the moment.

I want to thank the people who have brought there ideas to us over the years no matter what platform but to Saga Saturn for Tomb Raider that started me on gaming then I sold the lot eight months and brought a PS fun times.

Today gaming has lost something for me where has the puzzles in games gone (Legacy of Kain Soul Raver) it's all kind of like gaming has turned into some sort of Sesame Street A to B to C, go fetch and so on.

This is just my option on adventure games as they are what I play most as for a best CE not sure but the Borderlands 2 CE was good for the coin and what you got.

I do agree with Ni No Kuni: Wizard Edtion (US) due to the better packaging and an color manual. (Wish the Pal Wizard Edition at least had an color manual) But no one would have cared if it didn't have the Wizard Companion! That was center piece and people would have brought it just for the game and book alone. Everything else was just icing on the cake!

Like I said I don't have a best or top ten as I have no information on every one that has been created thus far I just wanted to appreciate the Ideas that have gone into creating CE but the Borderlands 2 CE was good for the coin and what you got in it. No offence but if that is what you got from what I said them so be it.

if it came down between Uncharted 2 - Fortunate Hunter Edition and Uncharted 3 - Explorer edition which one would you think belongs on the 10 best list?

Personally, I'd lean toward the Fortune hunter edition. It's much more rare, the packaging is much better, and the included item is fantastic. I've never seen the Explorer Edition in person but the outer box looks like cheap junky cardboard plastered with advertising logos.

I need more suggestions! A lot of these suggests make me say "yeah that was a pretty good CE" but only a small handful of them make me say "YES, that definitely belongs on the list"

The Explorer edition is actually pretty neat. Its actually a wooden box so when mine arrives I will take some pics.

On the other hand; best PC CE is probably the Star Wars the old republic. It was really great ce, even the game maybe killed it little bit. As fan of star wars I'd really love to have that one. For Wii CE I find the best one Epic Mickey CE NTSC or Epic Mickey 2 Power of two german edition. Not really into japanese CEs games so dont know. They are not that common in czech republic. Best european CE is probably the Risen 2 keg edition for me. Could be counted as PC as well. After this one, I'd say Assassins Creed Brotherhood Codex edition and Darksiders II uk/ french collectors edition. That CE is kinda beatiful and I'd really love to have it.
When it comes to steelbooks I cant really tell so I will say my personal favourites: Uncharted 3 Belgian stickerbook, Uncharted 3 Italian steelbook, Darksiders II shiny steelbook and probably diablo III steelbook

the treasure box itself sounds really nice but the fact that none of the other included items are exclusive, and everything (including the treasure box) is wrapped up in cheap packaging IMO makes it more of a "pretty good" CE but not a "best of the best" CE.

if it was made available (even only via contest) to the public then I'd say it still counts.

IMO Press kits are defined by their inclusion of press material or pre-release versions of games explicitly for review purposes.

Well a a lot of press kits are given away through contest as well, plus mos of them include the full review code (same as retail). So hmm... i would personally not count it. Because you could not purchase it, it had no price etc.

any "press kits" that were given away to the public in contests I would consider to be valid CEs as well.

The definition of what constitutes a CE here on CE.o has always been this
-Includes or can be included with a full retail copy of the game
-Is different in someway from the typical retail release
-Includes some form of improvement over the retail release other than a repackaging for reduced cost (eg: not a "platinum hits" re-release).

If a "press kit" were to follow that criteria then I would absolutely consider it a CE, not just for this discussion but in terms of entry into the database.

What were the best Wii CEs?

The best Wii CE IMO, was the Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate Hunter Pack. Loved the packaging. All the included items served a purpose, it came with a nice bust of one of the in game monsters and was good value for money. I think it was 59.99GBP at launch and you got a Wii Speak and Classic controller pro which were quite new peripherals at the time and made the gameplay and multiplayer experience of the game even better. :D Also, if you pre-ordered it you got another Monster bust! :D

If I'm honest though, overall there wasn't that many Wii CEs that were worth shouting about, but that one was by far my favourite. :D

Halo Reach Legendary Edition is definitely one of my "best of the last gen" it was overproduced, but that was it's ONLY shortcoming, it's really the benchmark that I use when judging all other CEs.

In terms of Bioshock 1, The figurine and cover art were great but the rest of the CE was just so-so... The Bioshock 2 CE on the other hand was phenomenal the packaging was great the inclusion of a vinyl record was awesome, and the bet part was the hidden messages in the poster that no one discovered until long after the games release... it's just a shame the game was a turd :lol:

Thoughts? These were the three CEs for AC that really stood out tome as being something other than a just a nice box or figurine and some DLC.

For me, its actually the Ubiworkshop edition, because of the original packaging. The thing for those 3 is; they are all just bundles. The aussie one is nice, but I dont see any work behind it. Just take those promo items and put them into cheap box from ikea-like-aus-shop. And the japanese full size connor edition; just grabthe connor (which is still available on retail) and put it together with game. I know it doesnt make much sense, but I feel that the ubiworkshop edition is more special than the others.

Absolutely agree with you on the Halo Reach Legendary Edition. I don't know why I never picked one up when they were $20, but probably because I wasn't really into collecting at that point and already had the limited edition and didn't have the room. But they are fantastic!

Also, I'm curious to hear what people think about the Halo 3 Legendary edition as a contender? I saw that a few posts ago and felt that the Reach version absolutely blew that one out of the water in all areas. While I think the Halo 3 was good to include an iconic symbol such as the Master Chief helmet, it just didn't have that same "themed" feel to it and certainly isn't in my top 10.

I agree with you on the statue... but the Ultimate Special Edition wasn't a bundle, it came in it's own crate, which had a nice leather finish and the Assassin's logo, IMO it looks much nicer than the Uncharted 3 Explorer Edition crate, especially since the crate WAS the packaging and it didn't have ugly marketing cardboard covering it all up.

I only saw this discussion today, but I totally have to agree with ingmar. I have the Fortune Hunter Edition and I wouldn't count with it in this top, much like most other editions and press kits that were not available to the general public. FHE Is a promotional item, not something you could buy in a store and not by any means something the general public had access to. The dagger is very impressive, but I wasn't so impressed about the package itself. I find the outer package very inadequate to hold such an important item. In fact I find the UC1 press kit more original and appropriate: it's a regular size imitation of book and comes with plenty of documents, which makes more sense to me than an off-scale book that specifically holds a dagger.

I think I'd also like to add the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Edition as one of my top 10 CEs this year -- I've seen it opened etc., but do not own it yet. For the price I feel it is/was a very nicely done CE. True, the fact that a majority of the bonuses were DLC-related and not put on a disc was a huge letdown, but the box, the COA, the soundtracks/videos, the artbook, the statue, the belt, the #'d edition as well as containing more than 1 actual game all were pretty nice.

Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Edition: Rare, oversize, and signed! Beautiful.

Borderlands2 Ultimate Loot Chest Edition: The chest, while not the best quality, looks great on a shelf in the game room.

Bioshock 1 CE: The quality of the Big Daddy figure is impeccable; none of that cheap PVC that virtually all other CE figurines are made of.

Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning Signature Edition: Lotta bang for your buck. Rock solid polystone statue, and it's signed!

Assassin's Creed III UbiWorkshop Edition: One word: Classy.

Fallout 3 Survival Edition: Great packaging, and a pip boy to boot!

DoctorX list of TOP 10 best CE'S this gen.

1. TLOU - PPE. This defines what is great about collectors edition. It is all about physical goodies. This got nearly everything. High quality triforce branded statue, steelbook, artbook, comic. I think this is one of best statues that comes bundled with game.
2. Sonic Generations CE. This is all about physical goodies. High quality statue, soundtrack!, artbook, ring and a nice special cover with game. Really good packaging wich screams quality.
3. TLOU - Press Kit. This press kit is so unique that this item looks very cool at shelve. This also got c-cassette looking usb soundtrack! how cool is that?
4. Link Between Worlds GAME UK ce. This opinion is pretty controversial considering how flimsy packaking is, but this is a personal opinion. I love to see that 3DS get collectors editions of good games. I really like how limited run this is and it also comes with cool musical chest. Very proud to have this in my collection.
5. ZOE HD - Limited ED. Comes bundled with HUGE artbook. Packaging looks very nice because of the foil cover. Looks real classy.
6. Castlevania Mask Edition. Looks real classy and high quality. Mask is good quality and this ce is bundled with nice goodies.
7. Mirrors Edge - Steelbook : One of best looking steelbooks ever released. Very limited run and this is one of must have steelbooks around there.
8. Mortal Kombat - Dragon steelbook : Another very good looking steelbook. Pretty rare but definetly worth the price.
9. Arkham Origins US CE - Another awesome triforce branded statue with cool led effect.
10. Uncharted II - FHE. Never had a chance to get this but one of best ce's ever released. That dagger replica is awesome.

The Canvas Art pieces were a very-nice addition and also had a "piratey" theme with the stretch across the wooden frames
A good quality World map is always a good thing to include in games of this nature and I appreciated them not overlooking it here
The artbook was well-done for the size/type of artbook and was a nice inclusion
2 additional Lithos were also nice and went well with other art included in this edition
The only thing that I feel would've made this a #1 and not a #3 is if they had included some more themed items IN this CE, something unique besides typical artbook/steel etc. If they had included any of the pre-order bonuses like the bag of coins, tankard, spyglass. Those things are nice as pre-order bonuses but considering this was called "Black Chest Edition" they should've included one of these type of things for that ultimate "We rule" boast.
Ubisoft made a good top-tier CE even better by including all of the DLC offered elsewhere, more companies need to do this regularly! (only thing better would have been if they included a season pass)

9. Lord of The Rings: War in The North Collector's Edition (US)

Package Design and Quality were fantastic! Excellently themed and unique CE case which also contained game (Leather Quiver)
Map Design was unique and fit the theme attached between two "arrows" and also a decent quality
DLC was neat as a themed Avatar outfit, but nothing too extraordinary
Included artbook was also a decent quality - though not extremely high-end
They took a bit of a risk with this CE going against the standard "big box" US editions and for this it is one of my favorite CEs still. The only thing that would've ranked this higher in my book is if they included the steelbook from other regions

Hey is that definitely the statue that comes with the CE for this, I've looked everywhere and only seem to find ones with a non bronze looking statue. Maybe its NA or region based.

That's the Omega with statue and steelbook, only available in Latin America. The statue itself is also included in the Premium Ascension collectors edition from Asia I think.

I can't really comment with any authority on this as I only collect for a couple of specific franchises. But I would say the best one for Mass Effect was the Italian exclusive Alliance edition of ME3, limited and numbered to 1100, though it didn't have anything that great inside, just the collectors edition, the SR2 Normandy replica and a notebook, but the box itself is really nice with some great artwork on the inside cover.

Fallout 3 Survival Edition.

I don't own one of these unfortunately. :( Would love to, but alas. I loved everything that came in the Collector's Ed for this game, which I do have, but then I remembered this. Can't remember the price point for the Survival Ed, but it contains some great items and it's a top tier CE, so didn't require you to buy multiple editions of the same game just to get every item CE item released, which seems to be the trend for newer titles. >.<

Interesting package, full of content with a resonible pricetag. ^o^ I think it cost me less than 100GBP to import this, which is a great price compared to other CEs I have purchased with less content. :D Not to mention limted and numbered.

Contains a full size artbook, Soundtrack Vinyl as well as a CD, posters, a copy of the game and a sturdy and attractive box to boot. What's not to like? Shame it was so overproduced and suffered a massive price drop. :(

Halo Reach Legendary Edition

The figure was really nice, shame it wasn't numbered like they originally said, but the package as a whole was great. :D The outer box was a very robust and sturdy package and I loved the journal that came with it. ^o^ Like it had been plucked straight out of the game. I actually read through the whole Journal and I don't often use items that come with my CEs. XD Wish I had waited and got it cheaper, but what can you do. :(

Full size hardback faux leather artbook, a good size Figure, Map of the game world printed on high quality paper and a digipak with the game disk and Making Of DVD. :D

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Crystal Edition

An overall nice package. Love the box it came in and the tray that contained the items. Plastic tray with Feathers embossed into it. :D Beats the plain standard plastic packaging used to fill CE boxes. The contents were great too. Came with a complete OST in a nice Digipak and I always love a nice T-Shirt. This package was then made complete in Certain territories by coming with a Steelbook pre-order pack. Since this edition was only available from retailers at pre-order I would count the pre-order pack as part of the package too. :P That would be upto you guys though. XD

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles Collector's Edition (NTSC)

I don't have mine yet, but from what I have seen from unboxing videos, this is an amazing edition. Comes with everything you could possibly want from a CE. Individually numbered and limited edition, Soundtrack CD, artbook, Novel, steelbook, game in it's own retail case and miniature figures of in game characters. Not to mention it was a great value for money edition at only $100. :v:

Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate Hunter Pack

For 70GBP, this was a great pack. :D Contained items that could be used and served a purpose. :D At the time I think the Wii Speak was about 15GBP and the Classic Controller was about 20GBP and the game was 40GBP, then you got a cool Lagiacrus bust and with pre-order you also got a Rathalos bust too. ^o^ In some countries you also got a Qurupeco bust too. ^o^ Although the Wii Speak was eventually rendered useless, I did put some good hours in online using both the Wii Speak and Classic Controller. :D

Really hard to say. I'm not sure I could think of 10. I know that the recently released Tales of Symphonia CE (NA version) would definitely make my list, though! I also quite like the Konami Style Premium Package for Metal Gear Rising. The packaging is just incredibly cool. I'm also going to throw in the Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost metalpak edition because that is one of the most gorgeous steelbook/metalpaks I think I have ever seen.

I would also put a tie between The Last Story UK CEand Pandora's Tower UK CE. The contents are nice--if not a bit simple--but I really like the steelbooks and the boxes are actually really sturdy, which is a huge bonus that I wish more CEs had. The DoDonPachi Saidaioujou Super Limited Edition also has to be mentioned. It was really expensive, but it has so much content in it. I usually prefer smaller, more conservative CEs, but that one just has so much amazing content. I can't think of a single thing that I would want added to it.

I also quite liked the Castlevania Lords of Shadow CE and the Metal Gear Solid 4 LE. The contents were nice--but certainly not anything spectacular; the packaging is what really makes those stand out. Not only are they small and more conservative, but they are fairly sturdy and very unique, which is exactly what I like.

I guess having conservative, unique, and sturdy packaging is what usually tops my list. I don't like box box CEs, nor do I like statues, so the big, ridiculous ones never do it for me.
